I apologize if this isn't the correct place to ask...

I bought my galaxy note 3 (sm-n9005) and because of all the bloatware that telstra put on my phone, I flashed a clean (unbloated) version of the same firmware..

My question is that does the source of the OTA updates change when I flash a clean rom? Or are the OTA updates still coming from the service provider?

Depends on if the rom had the update stuff removed - typically they do.

The app names vary between phone and carrier but ones to look for would be:

Anything with FOTA in the name - ie localfota, fotaclient
Anything with FW or Firmware in it - ie fwupgrade
And this guy: wssyncmldm.apk

These would be found in /system/app

And any of the corresponding .odex files if your rom is odexed still (probably not). If you have any of them, you can freeze them or just rename them.

There might be another carrier specific one included as well, but that should probably get you on the right track, but most likely if the rom has been properly debloated, all of those should be gone already.

Then it will definitely have some of them, if not all, or more. You have to be rooted to freeze or disable them, of course. But most people don't consider official firmware from sammobile to be debloated, FYI.
