Hello everyone,

my stock rom DX factory-resetted itself after a sudden crash and automatic reboot --> upon boot it ran me through the basic setup procedures again, all settings and apps were gone, all stored messages were gone, etc.

Having lost quite some data that way, I am asking myself three questions:
- How can I prevent this from happening again in the future?
- How can I conveniently backup my data? HTC Sync seems to only offers me to backup my contacts.
- How can I clear my phone memory which is apparently still clogged by the old app data? The apps are not recognized as installed anymore by the system, that way I cant clear them up via the standard "Free up memory"-routines

All the best & thanks a lot for your advice!

Easiest way would be unlocking the bootloader and installing a recovery. From there, you can do full backups, erase your data partition and restore backups. To save those backups, the best would be to install a micro SD card.
