Can i disable stock email and text messaging apps?

I use gmail and ChompSMS, since we are all about debloating the system, is it possible to disable the stock apps for email and text or do 3rd party apps use them as a source?

You can "turn off" messaging from settings-application manager-all apps

But not email. Given root is not achieved on this device.

i meant disabling and turning off going into the app manager.
