I am stock currently. Are you rooted? Maybe I just need to go ahead with that plan! If so, which kernel are you using?

Last question, have you tried using google play music at the highest quality setting? After further research - I believe this is directly related to the known issue with FLAC files. HQ Play Music will stream FLAC depending on the artist. I would be interested as to if you have tried that at all and if it exists on viper rom.

I was able to repro the issue on multiple devices and that enabled me to narrow the device itself out. That's kind of good/bad news, haha. Google has a fix but it did not make the cut for 4.4.2 - so I am curious as to if some of the leaked stuff has the fix or not. Trial and error will likely be the only way to know. http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/01...fix-is-coming/ describes the issue to a T.
