The seller has said it will fit with a standard case on it.

How strong is the magnet?

It's got solid pull and doesn't fall off at the drop of a hat if that's what you're asking. The magnet on the car charger I bought earlier completely sucked compared to this one. But again, I don't have alot to compare it with. I have one of those aluminum cables coming in, so I'll have a better idea relatively speaking in a few days.

to those who ordered the magnetic cables,

Does the cable carry data?

Looking on eBay, some says it does data sync and some do not...

Looks genuine because it has Sony written on it. Will let you guys know when I receive it.

Can the DK36 be taken apart and used?

I got this one too. magnet seems strong enough. You do need to be a bit careful to line up the charge points, but they do 'home in' relatively easily.

Only done one charge (using original sony plug part) and it all worked well.

I've had to send mine back because it stopped working . The seller promised a replacement on Monday but hasn't arrived yet. MIght have to put a paypal claim in and buy a different one.

I'm also having trouble finding a silicone case that will fit the DK36 dock
