Default Firmware updating question for noob

Hello,

Im planning on rooting my htc one m7 with the revolution rom. when updates come out i would also have to update to the latest firmware. I hear you have to do alot to flash the firmware and its not easy as just flashing it through the custom recovery correct?

My question is, what is the process on updating the firmware? Also what does fuu,ruu mean and does it make a difference?

Thanks.

with firmware.zip in your adb/fastboot folder:

Code:
Select Code
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot
with s-on you can only flash signed firmware of same or higher version with a locked or re-locked bootloader.
always make sure you flash the correct firmware for your phone.

If i were to accidentally flash the wrong firmware for my phone, meaning a firmware meant for another carrier, would it hardbrick the phone?
