This is indeed very bad news for us. And it means that the Photon Q will be dropped out from CyanogenMod moto_msm8960 unified builds sooner or later. The switch to builds that will require the KitKat bootloader and other proprietary parts of the phone firmware updated to KK level will happen...

Despite that, there's been some 3.4 kernel progress :)

There's still a lot of stuff to be fixed, but it boots with 3.4 kernel now and the display works at least.

Well, I spose if we can no longer be a part of the moto_msm8960 build, we can at least have our own bleeding edge stuff :D

Great work.

Death for the best (and presumably the last, not counting the F3Q) of QWERTY Android phones. Dammit, has QWERTY become such a niche market that no manufacturer wants to even refresh it? No wonder I sold my PQ last month.

The KK bootloader differs only on devtree handling as far as I know (it's not like Moto X / Droid MAXX bootloader). Not even the bootloader version is changed on the other phones. I myself would be more worried about baseband.

Mismatches between BP and new libs from the other phones.

Yes, the baseband is my biggest worry.
But the bootloaders are an issue as well.

Let's discuss the technical details and share ideas in this thread:
