This is a really known issue. you will need to replace the awb_cal file (auto white balance calibration). you need root to replace the file. You will also need a custom kernel with /system writable otherwise the new awb file will be replaced by the original one at each reboot.

so
  1. unlock bootloader if not already unlocked
  2. flash a custom recovery (twrp 2.6.3.3 or 2.6.3.4 recommended)
  3. root the phone + install busybox app
  4. flash a custom kernel with /system writable function (i.e elementalX, bulletproof... make sure the kernel match your rom)
  5. backup the existing awb_cal file just in case(/sys/android_camera_awb_cal/awb_cal)
  6. use a root explorer and replace the awb_cal file with that one from the Htc One M8

Wow, thanks for the explanation!
didnt knew that replacing a bad camera with the purple tint will result in another problem after replacemen, that really makes me angry.

BTW outside in day light the pictures are ok, but indoors looks like that.

not possible to fix it without rooting the device??

The only other way to rectify the green tint issue is to visit your nearest HTC service center and have them recalibrate the camera sensor.. takes 5 mins.

For a quick do, try switching to night mode. That might help. Does for me.
