What about trying this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2783157

This app (towelroot) works with most phones, it also worked on my Xperia devices, not sure about Moto G. I will test when my dad returns home with his Moto G

It won't work with the latest Motorola phones as stated in the thread.

This one works, at least with 4.4.2 (I still haven't received 4.4.3): http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto...vices-t2771623.

I've been using it for a while now, but only for simple things as it doesn't disable the write protection. That means that all the changes you may do in /system are lost with a reboot, "su" binary included.
