Default Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 still fast?

Hi all I'm sorry if this is the wrong place. I'm in the market for 8+ screen size tablet for $250 or under price point. Is the Kindle Fire HD still fast? Is it still a competitive tablet even with the HDX ones out now? Any other recomendations for 8+ inch tablets under $250?

Thanks everyone!

hello,
i think its still fast if you plan to use a custom rom kitkat and maybe just buy a refurbished (used) that can cost for 120 bucks and thats a great deal.

just buy the 8.9 that has a free camera and a higher clock processor and gpu and maybe a better battery life.

i plan to buy one in ebay or maybe in my local craiglist.

The new HTC nexus 9 has the same screen size but has a better 64 bit processor and a more resolution.
