did you run with sudo?

sudo fastboot devices
^^ does it show up? if yes then

sudo fastboot oem rebootRUU
^^ wait a second or two

sudo fastboot flash zip 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44.zip

copy/paste terminal output

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo fastboot devices
sudo: fastboot: command not found
I don't know why this is so. I installed fastboot so many times. :(

which linux are you using?

I can confirm these commands
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
work on Ubuntu 12.04LTS and 14.04LTS (32 bit)

but you need to run each line independently, you can't copy/paste all three lines at the same time, and sometimes the "sudo apt-get update" needs to be issued more than once for the repo refresh to work.

Ubuntu 14 but it's okay tried a couple of different ways and got it working (finally!)

ubuntu@ubuntu:~/Desktop/Unbrick_M7_UL$ sudo fastboot oem rebootRUU
...
(bootloader) Start Verify: -1
OKAY [ 0.049s]
finished. total time: 0.049s
ubuntu@ubuntu:~/Desktop/Unbrick_M7_UL$ sudo fastboot flash zip 1.29.401.12_hboot_1.44.zip
< waiting for device >

It's still waiting for device. :(

hmm :( so it's going to "nowhere land".

your first getvar said you were in hboot 1.44 is that correct? did you ever update firmware/hboot

if you are on hboot 1.44, (in normal mode, not ruu mode), try this

fastboot boot <name of recovery>.img

that's pretty much all I can think of.... looks like it's going off to repair. sorry

It was on 1.55 and then I downgraded. Looks like I really messed this one up...and just two weeks ago HTC was nice enough to get me a 1 to 1 for the purple tint issue.

Well at least I learnt two lessons.
1. Wait for a few people to flash stuff before doing it
2. Don't try to mess with the ROMs to make it work even if the instructions are given. If recovery says failed...flash another ROM instead. :)

Thanks for all your help man. I really really appriciate it. :)

if you did downgrade hboot to 1.44, then you can try the "fastboot boot <name of custom recovery>.img" (since it only works on hboot 1.44)
a longshot at best.

Sorry and good luck with repair

Yes I did .. I flashed the 5.12.502.2 AT&T firmware and the when I rebooted it went to QHSUSB_DLOAD ...scared the crap out of me and then I saw you posted the Fix and it worked !!!

You mean you flashboot flash zip firmware.zip? I tried that with my SUU as well but it failed. Probably cos the bootloader is locked. Could probably try and unlock it and try again but I think I'll just leave it to HTC. I hope that it isn't too costly. :(

Does anyone know how much HTC charges for out of warranty motherboard replacement? I'm hard bricked, and have had the m7 since last April.
