I managed to successfully flash 7.1 with pa gapps , everything working great, my only issue is the resolution, specifically how the icons appear blurry.
Its the same effect when playing SD quality on a HD tv, its pretty much all the icons. I am not sure if its the launcher or framework. i am using Google now launcher.
any suggestions?

I noticed that too, it is not launcher related! i tried both...
So definitely Framework issue or DPI
Its not DPI, I tried it shrinks the icon but doesn't really sharp.
Maybe something in the build.prop?
I am thinking to move to another ROM just to test the launcher, I am on RR on both S1 and S3, and the icons look fine. It kinda annoying, the rom looks great but these little details make a difference.
I would love to stay if there is a solution.

Not sure about tv remote bro. But you can flash without upgrading to 4.4.2 base rom.

I don't have the mega yet. Now I'm comparing roms for it to flash something different than Touchwiz right as I get it.
just to be sure, is it ok if i flash from 4.4 stock (touchwiz) rom?

Installation Procedure
- Make sure you are either on any KitKat ROM (CM11, etc) or on 4.2.2 TW based ROM and NOT on 4.1.2 TW based ROM
- Download the latest build
- Download Gapps
- Take a nandroid backup
- Recommended - Full wipe and factory reset
- Flash ROM using latest ClockworkMod recovery
- Flash Gapps
- Reboot.
- Enjoy!

When there is a official update released.8ROM will be updated to v6.6 today, but full wipe is mandatory because of a few changes made.

Apart from the normal changelog mentioned in the OP, the following device specific changes.
- Removed CRoM OTA from Settings->CRoM Tools
- Add init.d support
- Use CM Camera instead of Slim

v6.6 is compiled using O3. I am compiling an update for AICP using JustArchi V2 optimizations. You can try that when I upload it, if it compiles successfully.
