Hey dude. I tried using the RUU. I get to the install shield, but after I run the RUU.exe as admin, and accept the terms of the licence, it flickers off and I cannot get any further....Sorry to be such a pest!

I re-locked my bootloader, and of course am S-OFF
You have htc sync manager installed?
If yes, uninstall htc sync and left the drivers.
If not, install it and then uninstall htc sync and left the drivers.
restart the PC and try.
Or
You can try updating your phone with the ROM.zip extracted from the RUU via fastboot commands:

Place the ROM.zip in your adb folder
connect your phone to PC via USB
While your adb folder is open, hold shift key and right click on a blank space and select "open command window here"
then type
*adb reboot bootloader
*fastboot oem rebootRUU
*fastboot flash zip rom.zip
and again if shows an error
*fastboot flash zip rom.zip
*fastboot reboot

Let me know how it goes.

I did not have HTC Sync installed @Garmig

I just tried to install sync, uninstall it only leaving the driver installer, and tried again (this time using supercid to change my cid

Once again. I accept the terms in the installshield installer, and it just exits, thats it. Nothing
I do not flame. I spread the horribly obvious

Windows 7 or 8.1?

Also check this I found on @Sneakyghost thread:

RUU general errors:
- RUU quits right away, says “side-by-side configuration wrong or missing” : install Microsoft Visual Studio, VC Redist 2005, 2008 and 2010 - unfortunately i don’t know exactly which distro is required, only know it won’t work if you don’t have any Visual Studio and VC Redists. Also .NET is required but build into later windows systems.
- Any other RUU crash is hinting at the same issues (at least what i have seen). Make sure your Visual Studio and VCRedist is ok.
- RUU errors with numbers (RUU launches, starts, then throws an error number): please see below.

I suspect that might be the issue....

Trying manual mode now with the rom.zip

Remote 32 header error failed (both times I tried)

What about if you change back to the T-Mobile CID and try again?

fastboot oem writecid T-MOB010
fastboot reboot-bootloader
.....

So i have a t-mobile m8 and I used the google play edition ruu to convert it, but now I want to convert back. I keep getting the same errors as above and I even changed my cid back to t-mobile one and I've tried it manually. Help!!

Thanks!

The trick seems to have worked! I have a happy m8 once again! I am glad that it did not set me back to s-on or anything. I would hate to have to shell out $25 for an unlock...which is a bit steep if you ask me!

Thanks again for all your troubleshooting!

@Garmig
I'm glad it finally works.

Note: When the device is S-OFF it can't be set back to S-ON only running an RUU, it needs a fastboot command.

The 1.57 backup can only be S-OFFed with Sunshine, but if I use the 1.12 backup instead - will I not be able to use original firewater to S-OFF at 1.12 and then use the 1.57 RUU?
