I went back to the GPE after using Sense for a few days. Performance is actually pretty poor, with music skipping sometimes just while loading web pages.
Also, battery life was worse for me than on the GPE. Not sure why, but it was.
After flashing the latest ADSP from the Harman Kardon M8, sound quality is also just as good as Sense.
Performance was the biggest thing, and it's weird that general navigation was faster on Sense but overall performance under load was quite a bit worse.

Been running GPE since day one, never looking back.
HTC One M8 on AT&T [work & play] * GPE 4.4.4 ROM, bone stock
LG Nexus 5 on AT&T [work & play] *bone stock (for now) - rip screen/digitizer
HTC One M7 on AT&T [the lady] *bone stock sense
4G LTE FTW
