Well the s5 and note 3 probably have really ****ty algorithms for discerning because again the s3 and 5s can discern them albeit longer than usual. So its not also just light color or too bright lighted its if the same color is on the entire frame it cant discern when to stop and just goes screw it heres a red circle or a green circle way out of focus.

I dont care about focus speeds I would gladly trade that off for a clear freakin picture. but its slow and cant even get the focus right. ive traded in two units already and tested multiple s5s and note 3s all focus failures in anything but perfect light. in comparison a simple s3 or iphone 5s tap to focus... slow but at least it freakin focuses. WTF
I'm sorry, the nearest Best Buy is a few thousand kilometers away from me, so that'll be a bit complicated

I tried the conditions you described, didn't have a problem.
The only way I managed to have the red circle was to be in very low light and aiming at a plain white wall without anything on it.
Since it can't determine the borders, it gave me a red circle..
But as soon as I aim to any object or even to the corner of 2 white walls, it works.

Thumbs up Manual settings -Long shutter speed etc...AVAILABLE!

All those that want manual control of their S5 camera should check out CameraFV5...

Has some other nice capabilities e.g. continuous focus light on etc..
