If I get a verizon htc one m8 today can I still do all these things? I ask because when I got the verizon s4 before I got it I checked the forums and saw that they were full of talks about new ROMs and all that good ****, but when I got the phone I found out that all the custom recovery, flashing, etc only worked up until a certain OTA update and after that there was no way you could do any of those things. So before I order this phone can someone please confirm for me that recovery, flashing ROMs, etc is still possible if I get the phone now. thanks

You can yes. Instead of firewater, you may need to use the app sunshine to get soff and it cost 25 bucks. Worth it though to unlock your whole phone and do everything you want to it.

I just got my M8 last week, and I was able to permanent root with Weaksauce, and S-off using Firewater. No HTCdev, bootloader unlocking, or any of that. I'm still on the stock ROM and Recovery, and didn't lose any data.
Here is my question, though:
Now that I am S-off and rooted, if I use Flashify to install TWRP Recovery, will it affect my existing stock ROM? Like, will it factory reset me? I can't think of why it would, but I'm just trying to be careful.
If you feel like you need to ask for 'thanks' in the signature section of every post, you probably don't deserve it.

You'll be fine don't worry : ) as always afterwards backup your stock and save elsewhere.

If you're using weak sauce for root, you aren't permanent rooted. You need to flash twrp and then delete weak sauce app and super su. Then flash the newest SuperSU zip in recovery which can be found here in XDA in the SuperSU thread.
