Wouldn't faster charging mean more heat, and thus affecting the longevity of the battery life?

No. Perhaps yes, if using a charger which has a higher voltage and current output at the moment. However most modern devices regulate the voltage and current coming in and only use what they need to draw.

True Quick charge 2.0 requires a special charger AND a software update from HTC. Both will have features designed in to prevent damage to battery.

It'll never have higher voltage. Usb charges at 5v. All that increases is amperage.

Incorrect. Quick Charge 2.0 chargers may have a voltage higher then 5v
