nandroid is via recovery (cwm or twrp), if you use cwm, you just go to backup&restore->backup to sdcard
recovery will then perform a backup of your system (which includes all things which are not in internal storage)
It will then save the backup in clockworkmod->backup, which you can copy to your pc (a folder with date and time the backup was created) for freeing up space n your phone....
If you wanna restore, just make sure that the backup file (the folder with date and time as its name) is in the backup folder of clockworkmod (with all of its contents of course
) then boot into cwm and go to backupandrestore->restorefromsdcard->(choose backup folder you wish to restore)
recovery will then perform restore
just make sure that before performing restore via recovery, you backup your sms and contacts and important apps which you saved/installed AFTER you took the backup because all user data is replaced with the one IN the backup
