Default [Q] psneuter exploit doesn't work, help!

Hi!

I try to manually temporary root my Samsung Galaxy SIII device using Ubuntu virtual machine. I stuck in the first step although.

I copied psneuter, busybox to platform-tools directory in SDK.
Navigate to platform-tools directory in terminal
adb devices list my device.
adb push ./psneuter /data/local/tmp seems to be hangs. No next line prompt appear, just blinking the cursor.

How long this push command takes to finish approximately.
Please help!! I am stuck at very first step.

Many thanks

Default failed to set prot mask (inappropriate ioctl for device)

Well I could execute adb push commands, but I have no idea what went wrong before. Any way I could push psneuter.

But when I execute ./psneuter I get the message "failed to set prot mask (inappropriate ioctl for device)". I search trough forums but I could not find an exact answer. I don't need to flash a custom recovery ROM. My goal is to temporary root manually to get experience with rooting and to do some practicals on adroid forensic tools. (for a university project)

After reading many threads about the error I would like to ask
  • Can I use psneuter exploit with Android 4.3? (My device is Samsung Galaxy SIII)
  • If so how to fix the error - failed to set prot mask (inappropriate ioctl for device)
  • If not can I use pwn exploit or what else exploit I can use to achieve temporary root

Please help, I search on forums but unable to find an answer.

many thanks!
