The extra speed and smoothness of getting rid of bloat is worth far more than anything an OTA update could offer.

I never noticed any difference doing that before, more I just disable all the crud, seems to work fine now to get better battery life...ha ha

Re-flash a full firmware if you want to clear the root. Accepting an OTA update will generally kill the root anyway (not always, but usually), and if you have an OTA later than 3rd June, Towelroot will not work.

If this is TowelRoot, yes - unfortunately. TowelRoot won't work on xxugng8.
