Eventually I got it to work on my device (note 2, 4.1.2 stock firmware, n.e.a.k. kernel).
My problem was that the free version worked well, while the paid version threw tons of errors in supersu logs and refused to work.
To make it work, I had simply to remount /system in read-write and reinstall the app. I did it in Total Commander but other root filemanagers can do as well, and also console.
And, here it is: screen mirroring on 4.1.2.
Bonus: when connecting I used the WiFi AP of my device in tethering mode, so I could connect device to Chromecast and mirror without any external WiFi. This might be very useful next time I do a presentation: Chromecast to projector, tethering on, and good to go!
Thanks to the OP for the amazing program!
