Yes, most 4+ ROM's require more space for the system. You need to flash the stock hboot in order to use this ROM.

I've been getting the ocassional "A SIM card has been added" message (without anything actually being done to the phone, hardware or software) and yesterday I got the message again, pressed reboot and when the phone booted some apps (play store included) didn't want to run - "Error while launching application" it said. Got me very worried. I tried some things and what ended up being the only way to fix it was to boot into recovery (I have 4ext recovery) and going to Tools -> Scan and fix file system (not sure the exact name but something like that). I had to run it a few times, though. First time it said it found errors, but couldn't fix them. Tried again, it fixed the errors supposedly and I booted the phone and it worked. However, I went back to recovery and scanned and fixed again and it again fixed some filesystem error(s). After that tried a few more times and it seemed ok for now. Not sure what caused this.

YouTube apps not working

Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Free mobile app

You will need to install an older version of youtube. I have linked the .apk file below:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/qkxlj3iqjymt71n/YouTube_4.5.17.apk

Works fine. Once installed..make sure to off the auto-update option in your Play Store.

On the other hand, I have a question about the storage issue, especially when updating big apps like Whatsapp. Every time I receive this annoying message about insufficient storage, the only way around it which I know of is to reformat the entire ROM and start from scratch again (which is a painstaking task). Using an earlier recovery file does not resolve the issue either. Is there no way around this or is it simply that I have really reached the limit? Right now I have about 56 apps including system apps installed. Using a 32gb microSD as an external memory drive. Any help would be much appreciated.

P.S. I also have the All-in-One Toolbox installed. Not sure if it interferes with any of the ROM's a2sd setup.

Cheers,
Ed

You shouldn't have to install everything again.

It depends on which version of the ROM, which hboot it's installed on, and what your actual remaining internal memory on your /data partition is.

It doesn't really matter about your 32GB card. You have to make sure it's partitioned correctly with gparted or 4EXT recovery only, nothing else. Then follow the A2SD instructions. Keep apps on internal to trick them to sd-ext, don't 'move to SD'.

The ROM sometimes needs to 'see' enough free internal memory to update apps with A2SD. It thinks it is installing to your /data partition, but will actually go do /sd-ext. So to trick it, you can titanium backup some apps to free a bit more space on /data until there's enough, update the apps like WhatsApp, then restore your uninstalled apps.

Always check that your partitions are filling up correctly with something like DiskUsage. Your internal memory is your /data partition. If A2SD is setup correctly, your app data (preferences, settings etc) will be on /data. Your apps and dalvik will be moved to sd-ext.

Thanks for the quick reply. :good:. I am still a little confused though. So I am looking at both the sd-ext and data folders...and under the /data...I have both app and dalvik-cache as well as data and app-lib. On the sd-ext folder there are again app and dalvik-cache. So I suppose my a2sd was not configured properly? Is there a way to tweak this manually perhaps?

I have also followed your advice on the backup and un-install then perhaps restore once I have updated them big files. So I have backedup a few, deleted them too but still was unable to update the big files. Should I continue backingup/uninstalling till it works? Also under titanium there is an option to "move app data to SD card". Is that also a viable method to clear up some internal space?

Ed

Well that did the trick nicely. Heh...just backed up a few more and had them uninstalled. Free enough space (about 50mb internal according to titanium) and initiated updates and it all worked like a charm. Thanks for the tip!!! :victory::victory:

Ed

I experience the same problem as @dwinovax. I cannot install any app that is >25MB in size (i.e. Facebook/Dropbox). I had this issue after using this ROM for few months in August, with all these apps installed - the problem was, I couldn't update them. Now, after changing sd-ext partition size to 1,5GB (1GB previously), and wiping everything I simply cannot install bigger apps. I can't see what the reason is, as every partition has sufficient storage available ("df" output in attachment). I use JellyBean hboot - may that be a problem?

I have moved on to a new HTC One (m7).. But concerning your problem...try using alternate apps instead like X-plore for linking to dropbox. And accessing fb thru the browser. Just leave enough space (~30mb) at all times in the ROM.

Ed

Well, as for now I am using these services the way you suggested, but it's bugging me. I have the storage space required, but still I cannot install these apps. It's not I can't live without them - just knowing it was working not so much time ago makes me think - what had changed?

Anyway, thanks for Your answer. I was a happy user of HTC One S (Z520e), but then my AMOLED screen died (or burnt out) after my warranty period, so I was forced to go back to my old Desire, and to be honest, after upgrading to UHS-I class card, I am surprised how fast this thing can be. Something that was just temporary solution in July, just keeps working till now :)

I resolved this issue.

First attempt was to download apk files for Facebook and Dropbox and to copy them to /data/app folder. That allowed me to launch them, but still I was unable to update when newer versions came out.

Today I removed as much as I could from /system partition (mainly ringtones and Trebuchet launcher as I don't use it) and as a result, I freed as much as 30MB, and total /system usage was 192MB. Then I flashed custom hboot with 200/5/232MB structure (system/cache/data) and restored nand backup. As for now, I have 203MB free on data partition (~150MB previously) and this allowed me to update all of my apps including Facebook and Dropbox.

Hope that it will be helpful for someone facing the same problem. Cheers!
