Why do users continually bash the Exynos CPU. 2D & 3D rendering is done by the Mali GPU !!

Those that are rooted, why not try my SkyHigh kernel and see if you have any better experience. You could also try a small GPU overclock to 533 MHz. I would suggest to disable DVFS first ;)

Install instructions/requirements are in the thread.

Best of luck. UITA :)

I'm on your kernel running a debloated rom, with CPU max clock to 2.1Ghz, and GPU max clock to 667Mhz. It made no difference, the bloody game still lags like hell. It runs fine in my s4's Snapdragon 600... granted there's a resolution difference, but the Mali T628 MP6@667 is way faster than the Adreno320, so it should run at least as good.

What I don't know is which ARM cluster runs the game , maybe it stays on the A7 cluster, which can't feed the GPU fast enough in complex scenarios... I have a nVidia Optimus laptop and when the drivers don't detect correctly a game it runs on the integrated intel graphics and you can tell even in the menus... just a thought.

You didn't say if you had disabled DVFS. ..... which is important

Also high OC will lead to DECREASED performance. OC CPU is really useless when under high load due to rapid thermal throttling, same with 667 MHz GPU. General use is okay, provided device handles it.

Yes, I have DVFS disabled. I know about high OCing&thermal throttling, but it barely gets warm, certainly not warmer than when playing Asphalt8 for example, a more demanding game if only because it is 3D... it's just sad, it has to be an issue somewhere, when your city starts to get big it becomes barely playable...

Well, if others have reported same issue with other device hardware, it's more than likely the app is not optimised for the device, not those continually blaming the Exynos CPU......

Contact the app developer for feedback.

EA could care less about its customers. They are too big for there britches to give a crap about anyone. That's the way it is I guess

I'm another victim of EA's DISGUSTING customer service regarding this issue. They showed some initial interest (after getting really pi55ed off with the same generic response to everything) and even passed me over to a specialist in the US, not a script-reading drone in India. As usual, a few broken promises later and it all goes quiet.

I'm interested why no one else has noticed or reported the 2 other issues specific to playing Tapped Out on the Tab S. Firstly, when installing and launching the game for the first time it does not download the HD textures pack, only the standard one. Check for yourself - the main pack it picks up from the sever is 384MB, whereas it should be approx 900MB for the HD textures. I also play TO on my HTC One M8 (entirely lag free) and the game files are nearly 1GB.

It's quite evident the textures are not HD when you open the game and zoom in on any signs/text - pixel city.

The other issue no one has mentioned is the screen-tearing. There are areas of the screen where the textures are misaligned by 2/3 pixels - it's really quite noticeable.

So anyway... now attempting to call the UK support number and scream at someone for an update. If I make any progress I'll let everyone know.

I just update my play store review so its current telling people to not spend real money in the game because its a crapshoot if the next update will even play on your device.
That and I go down the other latest bad reviews and click the "this was helpful" button on them to bring the bad reviews to the top.

.

Glad i'm not the only one that saw this problem and this isn't the only game ive seen this issue with either. The interesting part is, if you try it using the CM11 port it will download the correct textures and the lag issue improves slightly - However this didnt seem to fix all the games I tried. Obviously the game has optimization issues but I can't help but think theres some other issues at play.

Hi, thanks for the info. I've never dabbled with mods etc... but would be willing to try. I'm by no means tech-illiterate but this thread http://xdaforums.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/cwm-recovery-6-0-5-0-galaxy-tab-s-8-4-t2824099/page27 is incredibly confusing to make any sense of where and how to start. Any info would be appreciated! :)

It depends on which version of the TAB S you have, if it's an 8.4 there are downloadable CWM Recovery and CM11 files which wouldn't be too hard to install but if it's a 10.5 then theres abit more work involved. If i'm honest with you, if your only considering it to get the game working properly then it might not be worth the trouble (using a custom recovery will also trigger the knox flag on the device and will probably void your warranty). While it fixed the texture problem for me, i didnt think the lag issue improved enough to make the game genuinely playable in a larger town.

OK, Thanks for the info. It is indeed the 10.5 I have. I'm not keen on voiding the warranty or risking bricking it so guess I'll just have to put up with it.

Out of interest, when did you last play the game on the Tab S? I went in two days ago on mine (albeit in lower res than you) and oddly there was VERY little lag at all. I'm level 45, have every single unique building (and character) and I'm well over the 4500 decoration warning limit. I've found that after logging in if you switch to your friends list, then go back to your town it clears up a lot of the initial lag found when first entering the town.
I'd be interested to know whether this works for you too?

it seems a Tab S with the new Exynos 5433 is coming (at least in Korea..), not sure about CPU perfomance but it looks the GPU will be quite an improvement over the current one....

info came from SamMobile

The Xmas event update has significantly improved the lag on my 8.4. Virtually no lag. Hopefully it stays that way.

I have the same issues on almost every game I have tried, and all the games work on my S5 just fine. After some research I believe it's because the Exonys processor is subpar for intensive gaming, Snapdragon processors are the much better option for gaming. Sadly, Samsung is only good at making displays on TVs and mobile devices. They have shown that they are not capable of excelling in software or processing chips.
