So the is fix in the boot loader do we have to flash the firmware again to get it to read properly

no. just flash recovery.

mine goes back to blank once flashing AOSP ROM, this doesn't bother me though.

If it was broken, it would be blank. Flash a firmware zip if you want the number to be different.

Flashing an image file won't change that number.
