Thanks, that did the trick
My G2 (D802) is running latest kitkat (D80220d-TLF-ES). HOw can i root ? IOroot not working
Hi, can anyone tell me if this method works on T- Mobile LG G2 running D80120e? I'm too scared to use towelroot because of the amount of problems associated with it and I really want to put stock android on this phone because the stock UI really sucks! Thanks
Shoot, I was hoping there was a solution... Looks like I'm gonna be stuck with that crappy lg ui... I should have bought a nexus.have no idea what will root 20e.. but your options for LG root are ioroot, stumproot, purpledrake and towelroot.
most new OTA updates in the last month or two have patched against ioroot methods and towelroot.
There's a new update as of a couple weeks ago, and this ioroot doesn't seem to work with
VS89026A-M8974A-AAAANAZM-2.0.20066
Kerel version 3.4.0-perf-g95fa932
Manual update methods didn't work either and towelroot says it's not supported. Any update coming soon? Thanks!

UPDATE 1: StumpRoot brute force method worked!

UPDATE 2: Ok,not sure if it's the new VZ update or StumpRoot,
but double tapping the phone or using the power key to wake up the phone
shows the lock screen and immediately shuts off again!
The phone wasn't doing it before, and it's intermittent. Is there any way to debug that?

Hello I successfully rooted but didn't get any superuser app and yet the apps are getting root permissions automatically. I installed root checker after restarting my phone but instead of asking permission, it directly declared that I have root. Then to test again, I installed X-plore and it didn't ask for permission but directly started showing root folders.
I have purchased this phone as a second-hand device (means that someone else had used it before), so is it possible that the previous owner had rooted this phone? But whatever may have been done previously, granting permissions without my input and consent is something I have never seen before on any android phone. Therefore I am confused, what should I do? Will installing SuperSU override (and be able to abort) new requests?
The download links for IORoot in this thread don't seem to be working any more. I get 404 file not found errors every time.
Are there any mirror sites?

Persevered with the link and after 12 tries it worked.
Oh lawd... I just received my replacement G2 from Verizon today, waiting for me at home. Praying it is not already updated to 26A...!!!
Thanks for the heads up. I checked and, of course, the replacement device came updated to 26A. I will give Stump Root a shot tonight if my tired ole GNex can get me enough of a data connection to download what I need! If not I'll try using LGFlashTool to downgrade, which is what I used to go back to 24A [for latest the available KDZ file] from 26A on my previous G2... but I was rooted then. :crossesfingers:26A works just fine with Stump Root:good:
ioroot is pretty much patched across the board on g2/g3..
I know your phone may come pre-installed with 26A so avoiding the OTA is not an option for you...
but in general from here on out... anyone taking a new update should not expect ioroot to work.
LG root options are ioroot, towelroot, purpledrake or stump. google if those are new to you.
a new exploit is not likely to come out any time soon... people should avoid taking any OTAs unless it is confirmed to be rootable.. otherwise you guys will need to downgrade with KDZ/TOT to get back to a rootable software version. Also.. do not rely on downgrade to always save you.. downgrading could be blocked by LG at any time... do not take it for granted.

ioroot was originally a Windows script to root the LG G2 on 4.2.2 made by IOMonster.
It was based on the original adb backdoor found by GiantPune and later posted by jcase.
The script has grown to run on Windows, Linux and OSX and support various other LG devices on Android 4.0 - 4.4.2...
Supported devices include LG Optimus G, G2, G3, G Pro, G Pro 2, G Flex, G Pad, L70, L80, L90, G2 mini and more.

Howdy everyone!
Here's another neat root!
This is confirmed to work for the ATT and Verizon variants, I'll add support for T-Mobile as soon as I get someone in #lg-g2 in Freenode who owns one.
Simple:
- Ensure you have ADB drivers installed and USB Debugging enabled
- Extract this .zip file somewhere
- Run the root.bat file, and read the instructions
During the installation, you'll have to disable USB Debugging and re-enable it, then the app will ask you if you care about rootcheckerd (rctd).
If you don't want your phone to show "rooted" in download mode, or in settings, hit CTRL-C when prompted and you'll just have a root shell through ADB.
Personally, this is enough for me, but if you want full root, press continue and it'll install superuser and a superuser binary for you.
PLEASE do not mirror this! It makes my life easy if I can just edit the file on my server if need be instead of contacting all the mirrors.
Can you explain the difference between root shell (leaving it to say unrooted) and "full" root? Will this affect once we get a way to unlock the bootloader or get a recovery for roms? And is there a way to unroot? Thanks for this!!
