The one with working knock code and the other kernels, dorimanx, are they based on 20b/d?
I don't know for Dorimanx.
For the patch of kernel stock, this is the thread of @garyd9, who has participated in the development of the method for a custom recovery on KK:
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2672931, it says in the source and credit part:
Credits:
Several people spent countless hours working on finding a way to get recovery working with LG's kitkat. The kernel used in this package was made by @savoca - who used the solution found by @JackpotClavin. Others involved are (as far as I'm aware) @AndroidUser00110001 and @jakew02. Of course, @Chainfire for the 'su' package.

Source:
All the images in the recovery package are completely stock with the exception of the kernel and kernel modules. The kernel is modified and recompiled with only the following patch: https://github.com/JackpotClavin/an...mmit/7b6187a0e5fb8ca59888cacf5f5b863baa8d1064. (The installer overwrites the kernel images in /system with those from the kernel compile.) The base kernel source is found on LG's opensource website under the D800 heading.

so my issue with backups failing (unable to create backup folder) turns out that the entire /data directory was remounted as read-only. No clue how that happened. I backed up all the important stuff on my phone and formatted /data (at the advice of the TWRP guys), and now everything shows correctly as rw, not ro. just doing a remount did not work.

So now my backup has run successfully. The TWRP guys think it may be indicative of a possible hardware failure, so it could happen again. I'm keeping my eye open for it happening again.

I'm coming back to rooting after a few year break... there's 141 pages here and I've been reading and I'm not getting any where confidently. I have a Verizon LG G2, I rooted with stump root and now I want to install twrp and obviously this isn't as straight forward as it used to be. Im on 4.4.2 and took the OTA 26A a few weeks ago. Can I run Autorec now and be good to go flashing roms or no? I see loki being used here and there... What up.

Download autorec for your phone model. Don't use a different model one.
http://bit.ly/g2_AutoRec
Install twrp in it. Then you can download the thermal control twrp. Don't restart into twrp yet.

I didn't need this. I just flashed the Dorimanx kernel. If you had white lines.
For those having white lines issue when using patched kernel, download your kernel here and flash it via recovery:

This autorec doesn't have a thermal temperature control. Download the zip for your lg g2 model.

The thread for it is here
xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=55278189#post55278189

Flash it using Flashify for root app from app store. There's an option in it to backup your stock recovery and stock kernel I think it's called. When it's done you can boot to recovery using hardware buttons or if you had the power menu changed, go to recovery from recovery in it. I flashed Dorimanx kernel in twrp before I flashed custom roms. Make a full nandroid backup of everything first. To flash kernels wipe dalvik cache and cache first, then flash the kernel using the install. If you have a custom rom download ready, wipe everything except internal storage. Then go to twrp home screen and click wipe then swipe for factory reset. Then you install, flash your rom or any backup you had made. I just backup everything and restore all of it if I switch between roms. After flashing a custom rom I boot to system, restart, I flashed the Dorimanx kernel again in twrp then restart back to system.

Why not restart into twrp after autorec has just installed twrp?
What's the benefit of the thermal control custom twrp? Couldn't that be installed at any later date?
Thanks

Hello. I'm new on G2 thread, so I apologize if I will ask one or two silly questions.
I just bought a LG G2 - D802 second hand (LGD panel)
The phone came with root and installed recovery TWRP 2.7.0.0. Being familiar with TWRP (coming from Galaxy Nexus), i updated to 2.8.0.1, from official site: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/g2d802 .
All working fine! For now, i tryed CloudyG3 2.0 ROM and LiquidSmooth ROM for 2 days without any problem.

Now i found that there is a custom TWRP... thermal temperature control (?!)
Which is the risk of using the official TWRP version vs this custom one?

Thanks a lot!

Thermal control one to keep device from overheating in twrp. You could flash it in twrp or use flashify so you don't need to start twrp that don't have it. Extract the zip and after you used autorec you only need to flash the img file extracted from zip of the thermal control twrp. after getting twrp with autorec or how you choose to.

after trying some way of installing custom recovery that led to failure, this method works perfectly fine on my G2 VS980.

@Cloudyfa
Cloudy, can you update the recovery in Autorec to 2.8.0.1 or 2.8.0.2, with thermal control, because we have a confusion among users, that don't know what to do after they flash this, and we would prevent that plus screen damage for the newbies.

Thx

Anyone know if there is a way to tell if you are running the TWRP with thermal control? I flashed it with no errors, so I assume I'm running it, but haven't spent a lot of time in recovery to see if it is getting hot. The version # just shows 2.8.0.1. I don't think there's a way to see within TWRP, but thought there might be some identifying file or something. Yoinx gave me some good direction via PM on checking CPU utilization, but I'm talking about just some flag or identifier on the modified TWRP with thermal control.

Disregard - I'll ask this in the TWRP thread. I must have glanced right over it while searching this morning.

I had a LG G2 D800 with d80020u firmware. Using post #1, it bricked my phone. I had to use LG Flashtool to reinstall/downgrade to 10D. What a PITA that was. From there, I was able to root/twrp/CM install.
Beware if you have 20u firmware.

Hi,
I have problems with the Knock code after using AutoRec. I tried to "update touch firmware", but I didn't solved the problem. How can I do to make Knock code work well again?

    AutoRec
    KitKat Recovery Installer

    Info
Many people upgrade to KitKat and find it so annoying to look for a flashable zip file, or trying to downgrade the bootloader, flashing patched kernel,... in order to have a working system, custom recovery with KitKat. So we make this little app to do all the job for you automatically.

    Process
Using this app means you'll downgrade your bootloader and flash a custom recovery (in this case, we used TWRP 2.7), fix download mode, also install patched kernel so you can boot back to your current system (stock LG KitKat ROM)

    Guide
Upgrade to KitKat using KDZ / TOT / OTA method
    Root your device (using ioroot25)
    Install AutoRec (grant root permission)

*D801 must root before taking KitKat OTA

    TWRP Team
    @djrbliss for the loki tool
@Savoca, @xdabbeb for the patched kernel
    @autoprime for the ioroot
    @kewkie for the splashscreen

    Warning!!!
Modifying partitions is dangerous and we won't take any responsibility for possible damages you or the app may do to your system. Please use at your own risk.

Perfect, now we have lost the only reason why I had not yet left this g2 ...
I write here because the treads of Cloudy were closed ...
Thank's @Cloudyfa for all the work you've done for us!

Cannot figure out how to fix the white lines

Tried flashing ZVC radio full to replace the kernel completely, then ROMs failed to flash. So I flashed ZVA, then ZVC, the KK ROMs flashed and it seemed well but the lines were still there. Has anyone figured out how to revert AutoRec? Its a great app but it seems like manually installing recovery prevents the lines

Edit: Just read @Cloudyfa 's other threads and I kind of feel like an ass. Thank you for all of your hard work on the G2 and thank you for keeping this thread open for us. Hopefully you see how many people appreciated your hard work & its sad that a few unappreciative people had to ruin that:(

It's Soo sad, that I bought this phone 2 months ago, and now best developers just disappear becsuse some users that don't understand how to behave... :( just used this app to install recovery. Works like a charm. Have first backup since instalation of KK on my otg flash drive. Big thanks man

A big hole is left in the android dev section after cloudyfa has left us..He was the big shining star for the g2 development.
We have lost 3 amazing roms with a bright future, and a lot of other great stuffs like recovery installer for kitkat.
    What have we left now?

Hope people atleast those people behind cloudys leaving can learn from this!

Anyways, Thanks for all your hard work @Cloudyfa
And I know that the g2 community have given you around 2k thanks for all you have done here, so we have appriciated you!

We all really like all roms developed by Cloudyfa, so I really wish @Cloudyfa could come back to us again in the near future!!
And those who don't have Cloudyfa's permission, even you have credit to Cloudyfa, you should not take even one part as yours!!

It's terrible that it has to be this way, one person ruined it for all of us. I just downloaded Cloudy Pro 2, but I don't think I will flash it since it will no longer be supported. :( We need you back, @Cloudyfa!

    OT:
CloudyPro 2 is still a great rom. By downloading it and using it you still can tribute to the rom chef and maybe make him consider coming back to C- users :). You can imagine how time consuming is:

    1. creating and modifying roms for differrent variants
    2. supporting different variants and bugfixing

    OT:

I agree, and as soon as I have the time, I'll still flash it. It just sucks that people think they need to steal other people's work and now one of the best G2 devs has left us. Here's to hoping for the return of @Cloudyfa

Its people like you that make this site so special and helpful!
thank you for your time and effort in making our phone even better!!!!
    :good:
First, I wanna thank you for all the kind words I received last couple days. There're so many pm/comment/email cheering me up. And you know, it really encouraged me a lot when I see how pp love my work (even I think my contribution not that so great ;)).
I just need time to relax, nothing more. Trust me, pp can make me upset, mad,... but never ever can beat me, or stop me doing what I want.

Anyway, I'm here. I really appreciate what you've done so far.
