Looks like Microsoft is lost. This UI is worst than the TG01 Toshiba Interface. MS is appealing to the social networking mania to see if it can save their life but misses the target. It is completely unappealing. Besides it looks like a resources hog. I bought the HD2 because it was a promising device with a lot of resources, but OS-wise is crap. Sense and XDA guys are the ones who make it worth having it. I'll be looking to Droid in the future.

HTC have more or less implied they are bringing the "HTC experience" to WPS7. There was also a lot of rumors doing the rounds about their being 2 versions of WPS7. There was one that was media centric and very akin to the ZuneHD and there was one that was meant to be a cut down version ready for hardware partners to add their own 3rd party additions - And the former is exactly what we have all seen and read about today.

I have a feeling there is more to come - They didn't show us much, Joe Belflore in his interview with Laura Foy states "this is a very early build" multiple times when she asks questions about different parts of the OS. We didn't even see the dialer or how it will integrate with contacts! So I think lots is still under wrap - Look at how damn well they have hidden this from us - All we had were random screenshots and now WPS7 is absolutely nothing like anything we have laid our eyes on previously. I believe they've definitely got a much, much deeper hat to pull tricks from.

Now as it is supposed to be a successor to WM6.5.x or WM6.5 or WM6.6 (whatever is on the way) people are doubting from what we have seen that it is indeed a successor because it is so different - Hold that thought for a minute and think about what M$ has done from WM6.1 to WM6.5.x - Specifically, all the extra customize-ability they have added and how it has been handled with CPR files (easier scripting) and support for transparency and .PNG images. All these elements became much MORE customizable upon the launch of WM6.5 and then even further with WM6.5.x. I think we should have at least some faith in M$ here and take those steps they took with WM6.5.x as an indication of what message they were trying to convey. I think this will follow over to WPS7 in the way of the OEM edition I mentioned above. Why do all that work and then throw it out the window for WPS7 ? Not to mention they're are still new builds of WM6.5 and WM6.5.x hitting the streets dated only a week or so old. I think what the OEMs will find themselves with is a WPS7 version that is very developer and 3rd party friendly. It's like WM6.5.x was a preliminary test to see how well the change of customizing would be received. I think these features will carry over to the OEM version and that friendliness to carriers and OEMs will be what makes it so ground breaking. As the link above states, HTC are very impressed with WPS7 - Do you REALLY think they would be so thrilled if M$ killed off the face of their product? HTC Sense? I don't.
I agree with you, although after I first saw the videos etc I was horrified at what WM may become. I don't care about facebook, twitter and any other social network. It's obviously aimed at people who can't fart without putting it on facebook. The native UI is messy and ugly IMO, so I'm hopeful that HTC will carry on covering up Microsofts mistakes. Sense to me is excellent, that or SPB Mobile Shell. What I'm really looking forward to is multi-touch, decent multi-touch. I think it's a good thing it's aimed at the general consumer because it will encourage devs to get on board and develp more programs for the WM platform. Though in the process I hope they don't alienate all of us who enjoy WM for it's flexibility, freedom and customisation. Otherwise I shall be saying (a sad) farewell to WM. Though when it was said in a video that "It's not a PC, it's a phone" or something like that, sent chills up my spine. That has always been the beauty of WM for me, I want it to be a PC AND a phone.

If the Zune UI didn't get RAVE critical reviews then they wouldn't put it on the phone. Everybody said make Zune a phone. Plus they've been working on this twist UI since Media Center days and people love WMC too. So I guess that means your taste is not majority..

as for my taste, I like this even though I do wish they'd fit more on the screen sometimes. But I really like this aesthetic, and I strongly dislike Apple's. That gray plastic look with the bubbly round rectangles doesn't sit well with me

As an "old" WM I would say that this new Microsoft version of Titanium/CHome is nice. Needs some polishing but nice and functional, that will provide 'em more average Joe customers that does not like some of the features of Apple Phone and Google Phone. Let's be honest that is the goal for MS with "new" Windows Phone 7 Series.

Underneath of that "shell" there is new CE (7) that is evolutionary step from previous CE (6). Can be it be worst than CE 6 that current WM 6.5 devices are running? Don't think so. Will it bring some problems in compatibility area? Probably ... some. For android lovers I have just one area that Google will take more than few years to accomplish what MS is doing for years.

Take a look at battery capacity and Stand-by autonomy on both devices that are very similar. Another problem is open source nature of android. If open source is so great why are we all running Win7 on our rigs instead of just some of nice Linux distributions. Open Source is nice and all, but when it comes to productivity it is not, in most cases. Although I love using Linux for certain type of "jobs".

Apple Phone is ... well ... like Xbox to PC. Functional and all but not best suited for enthusiast user, but rather for one that thinks he is one (or would like to be considered as). Good as first smartphone experience for a person that is below 18 years old IMHO. I personally cannot consider Apple Phone as business solution.

That is dialer. It is used to type in numbers that needs to be dialed. Apple users can use iPhone Advanced Dialer with exploding buttons animations and nice sound effects. For a 5$ upgrade you can purchase iPhone Advanced Dialer Plus that has integrated game with it.
