If you do not want root, then install with odin the NC2 stock firmware
Below,
N900AUCUCNC2_Full_Odin_Tar.rar

https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001615211

then install the OTA

or if you already safestrap the install the NJ5 rom at bottom of post 1

another way would be you have to have a copy of the original OTA copied to your external sdcard and rename 2400258.cfg to 2400258.zip then use stock recovery to install

ATT-KTU8P-N900AUCUDNJ5-2400258.zip 458.8 MB

I tried the sdcard option earlier and again tried with the file u provided but the update fails with error saying unexpected contents in SHealth2_5.apk and then it just wipes off my phone and restarts. Can this be fixed or i have to flash to NC2

you need to do a factory reset, and odin install the NC2 firmware, or use the 4 separate files and that will make your phone OEM NC2, then the OTA will install

thanks carl for your help so far. i have one last question. what is the difference between the tar file that "HOME" in the name and the full tar file (N900AUCUCNC2_Full_Odin_Tar.rar) that you mentioned here? Should i select full file under AP if i want to use that instead of 4 files? just trying to understand the details here. thanks.

yes you can, the full tar does the factoryreset for you all in one install.

what it is really is the 4 separate files put into one file

Couple of questions -
Confirmed my Note 3 (SM-N900A) is on NC2 (No root / no custom recovery)
I'm on Cricket so I will most likely never see the OTA from AT&T (Been trying for a few days now)
If I understand this correctly, I download the ATT-KTU8P-N900AUCUDNJ5-2400258.zip, unzip and rename the 2400258.cfg to 2400258.zip and move to SD-Card installed on device.
Boot into stock recovery mode (VOL Up / Home / Power Button)
Then in recovery, select 'apply update from external storage'
Then select 2400258.zip and let it do it's thing
Did I miss anything?
I have done root / roms in the past with other devices, but I've read the Note 3 from AT&T has issues with root / custom roms so haven't taken the plunge yet.

Thanks

I was able to flash my phone to NC2 using 4 files + 1 file (PIT) and was able to apply latest update via external SD card method and it worked. Now i'm on 4.4.4. thanks carl fo your help.
there are some minor issues like sview crashes 100% of the time with my s cover, but not sure if this is related to build.
