I'm not an expert, but comparing your output with mine, you abort at the point ODIN is trying to flash the cache (see my output below):

<ID:0/009> Odin v.3 engine (ID:9)..
<ID:0/009> File analysis..
<ID:0/009> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/009> Initialzation..
<ID:0/009> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/009> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/009> aboot.mbn
<ID:0/009> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/009> sbl1.mbn
<ID:0/009> rpm.mbn
<ID:0/009> tz.mbn
<ID:0/009> sdi.mbn
<ID:0/009> NON-HLOS.bin
<ID:0/009> boot.img
<ID:0/009> recovery.img
<ID:0/009> system.img.ext4
<ID:0/009> cache.img.ext4 <--- you never get to this point
<ID:0/009> modem.bin
<ID:0/009> RQT_CLOSE !!
<ID:0/009> RES OK !!
<ID:0/009> Removed!!
<ID:0/009> Remain Port .... 0
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)

Again, I'm not an expert, but I would suggest you first boot into recovery (Vol Up, Home Button and Power), and then proceed to Wipe Cache. If you don't mind losing your original config, you can also factory reset.

Then I'd try again. If it continues to fail, I would suspect that your NAND (?) is failing, but I doubt it, unless you've been flashing hundreds of times...

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try that... after I figure out the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."

OK. Was able to flash the image with Odin. I guess VMWare Fusion doesn't work so well with Odin. I booted up a laptop at work with Windows 8 on it and Odin was able to reflash just fine. Rooted with the custom recovery, then soon I'll probably flash the ROM.

Success!
Even though there is the new NK3 update, I've been prepping and reading your NF9 guide several times the past week to get the courage to update my phone. As was described, it was effortless. I had NF1 stock rooted with twrp and compulsion kernel running S5 Touchwiz + s5 apps. Went to NF9 and the baseband and build updated without triangle away. The only other thing I had to do that wasn't in the steps was after initial flash I went back into stock recovery and did a factory data reset as it tried to keep all my previous user data/apps. Other than that, it went perfectly. Great job on the guide and I will be hitting thanks for sure. I'll be back soon for your NK3 guide/install. Keep up the great work!!!
