Hmm - well I just tried Vroot on my new Tab 4 and it didn't work - at least I think it didn't work. The Tab connected to the PC just fine and I ran Vroot. It briefly showed a little USB icon on the left side of its window. I clicked the green button ... and waited ... and waited. And since nothing further seemed to be happening, I ran RootChecker on the Tab and it said no root. I rebooted the Tab, still no root. I ran Vroot again, still no root.

And of course I can't understand any of that chicken-scratching in the Vroot window. For all I know it might say "All your data has now been sent to Peking. Your disk will reformat in 5 minutes."

How long is this Vroot supposed to take? Does it give any sort of indication when it's done? Thanks.

Thanks for the pointer. I note though that that thread was started in August 2014. Does this TWRP method still work on my Oct. '14 NJ3 firmware?

I'd pay good money at this point for a nice easy towelroot that works on this steenkin' Tab 4

OK, I'll give that a shot. So you just put this tar file in the AP line of Odin and hit Start? Any Options to check or uncheck?
