Install a different version of gapps
Maybe an older version, which file are you installing?

I've tried with the 2.10 and 2.37 versions of liquidsmooth and gapps-jb-20130301-signed, gapps-jb-20130812-signed, and KDH_NXT-GEN_GAPPS_4.2_FULL gapps. with the first 2 gapps packages, the error constantly pops up "aosp keyboard has stopped". The last gapps package breaks setup wizard. I also made a flashable zip of swiftkey and only the predictive text will show up, not the actual keyboard.

No luck, Sir. I'm flashing in safestrap in rom slot 3. I just can't get the damn keyboard working. And the kitkat rom for Droid 3 doesn't have working WiFi haha. I'm just trying to do this as a favor to someone but can't get anything to work after gingerbread.

just goto keyboard settings and disable physical keyboard in the input method popup however u have to do this everytime the phone reboots or turn off or back on. *thanks?

I get that this is a very old thread, but does anybody have a working link to the proper safestrap and ANY rom for the droid 3?.
Most of the links for safestrap are actually malware too. I think this forum needs to be cleaned up big time, or shut down.

Installation: - Make sure you have SafeStrap 3.05 or higher HashCode's how-to-safestrap
- These builds are KEXEC and work on any stock system version
- Reboot and hit menu at the SafeStrap splash screen
- Create Rom-slot3 (NOTE: this will only work in slot 3)
- flash ROM
- flash Gapps
- reboot
Issues:
Please report all bugs at http://androidhosting.org:8050. Look through the known list before just posting there may likely already be a solution or response.
- If you are having issues with WiFi turning on after flash. You can either just reflash the ROM and Gapps without wipe and reboot or in adb shell or terminal emulator 'su' enter 'wifical.sh'
- If you boot to a blank screen and it stays there more than a minute or so after the kexec vibrate you need to reboot to SafeStrap switch to stock and boot it (optionally uninstall and reinstall recovery from the SafeStrap app). Then reboot and select your ROM slot and it should boot fine.
