Not really, no. To change those icons, you just need to change the image files inside your apk.

Have a look at TICKLE MY ANDROID, it can do it for you!

I will look it (tickle) if works , but i have trouble why after im placing png files for icons at xxhdpi (replace) sound image then i compile systemUI but nothing icon be changed.

If your icons aren't changing, either you've changed the wrong files or there's something not right with the way you've flashed the apk file to your phone...

Probably the best thing to do if you're having trouble is to take it slowly and test each step. Before you get to the part about editing the smali, compile your apk and see if it works in your phone.
If it does, try the smali editing. If it doesn't, share your XML here and I'll see what I can do to help you.

Android modding takes a bit of practice to get used to. But once you do, you'll be able to do stuff like this in your sleep!

It took me about two months from rooting my first Android phone to being able to change the battery icon..and that was on Android 2.1 which was a lot easier!

Just have patience and you'll get there.
