FINALLY got TWRP thanks to AutoRec. This method didn't work. No matter which version of TWRP I cant flash anything.

I try on 2.7.0.0 to make a backup, cant create a folder to create backup
I try to flash a ROM on 2.8.0.1 or 2.8.1.0 and it fails instantly (Dont recall the error)

I'm really starting to dislike this phone

Sorry for the dumb question: I am on D80100d, once I root, install recovery as per OP, if I want to install latest ROM's (lollipop) can I directly install them or do I need to upgrade firmware before that?

once you are rooted and have recovery go ahead and install ROM. No need to upgrade firmware. Infact once rooted and "twrped" you should not touch firmware (except to fix bricking /warranty)

Also, if you want to upgrade to a new ROM from your current ROM, always remember to backup and wipe everything EXCEPT internal storage. Then you can go on to flash your new ROM and gapps!
