You missed my point.

I want to make the usb cover a non permanent fitting.

I just need to know will it still be water resistant the way it's held without the plastic hinge?

You should try wireless charging and forget about that usb cover
Since i charge my phone by induction, i maybe opened that cover once, just to copy a very large file to it.

Thanks for this, mine is about to snap off so I'll get a replacement from Amazon or Ebay or something and follow this guide to replace
