Bought my GT-N7000 in January-13 , my first android phone. Started learning how android works and eventually landed here on XDA when I started searching for bricked note devices.....

Welcome to Android & XDA. After playing around with CM and Asylum you might want to take a look at a true Gem for the Samsung Galaxy Note. Paranoid Android.

Definetly worth a look:
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2115167

Among other things what makes PA Special is the Hybrid possibilities. You can adjust the Note from Phone over Phablet all the way to Tablet Layout. This opens up a whole new experience. For Other Releases I recomend the Xposed Framework to adjust DPI. Otherwise there is so much wasted space on these large devices.

Anyway welcome to the Community.

Apps to try:

Xposed Framework - Very powerfull Framework - DPI Plugins etc.
BubbleUPnP Player - Very Recomendable UPnP Streaming App
A.I.Type Keyboard - Very customizable Keyboard
IPCam Viewer - great for Securtiy Cams of all sorts
CamScanner - great Little mobile Scanner / PDF creator
Beautiful Widgets - Weather and Time Widgets
LockIT - Lockdown of individual Apps with an additional Passwort
DiskUsage - Check your internal Space for space filling Log Files etc.
Total Commander - Free and one of the best File Explorer
PowerAMP - Good MP3 Player
PowerNZB - NZB Search/Download/Unpack great in combination with BubbleUPnP to stream to TV when done.
RoboForm - RoboForm Everywhere Password Manager. www.roboform.com
SmartRemote - Samsung TV Remote
SmartTools - Diverse Set of Tools to Measure and check Angles, Distances, etc.
XDA HD Premium - Supporting XDA is always good.
Titanium Backup - Very Comprehensiv Backup Tool
Apex Launcher - Great alternative to the Standard Launchers. Using a third Party Launcher like Apex garanties the same Look on all the different Android Versions.
GPS Essentials - All kinds of GPS Information. Allways good to have available.
GoodSync - GoodSync Connect allows to sync anything to your Home Computer and vice versa.
Dropbox - Automatically sync your Pictures even when you are on the move. If you need to throw your Phone to fight your way free attleast you have the Picture of the attacker safe in your Dropbox. ;)
Outlook.com - Sync your Android Calender with Outlook via your Microsoft Account.
Booking.com - If you Need to find a Hotel on the move this app might help. Also check all the Rental Apps to be able to inform and compare different Rental Car offers before deciding.
DocumentsToGo
and of course many more.

I've tried PA (4.2.2) once on my note and there seemed to be a lot of force close errors and device used to run out of memory while streaming videos on 3G, despite a completely clean install.

Will try PA today since I have time to fool around. Thanks for the useful app suggestions and your hard work for PA. :)

Firmware update - has ruined predictive text !

The predictive text function on the latest firmware update (Automatically came in, last week of December 2013), for Note II - is a huge disappointment over what was already in the phone. It will not learn my most commonly used words effectively any longer. (i.e. - Wife''''s name, kids name, address (geographical) locations)...
It forgets them (no longer includes them in predictive text) immediately. Can use again in the same message - but after that the user must type all of the words completely again and force the phone to accept them.

PLEASE 'downgrade' to the old predictive text. It worked - it was smooth - it was a pleasure to use. This 'upgrade' is extremely disappointing and wastes so much time in 'swyping' messages.

Any information on a retro-install of old 'dictionary learning' features would be greatly appreciated.

Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Sim Size

It is very important question here. I humbly request to all developers to reply my question... I am here in Pakistan want to buy Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000... earlier i had Galaxy Note SHV-E160S and it has micro sim card while the international version GT-N7000 have mini (standard) sim size.. i know this thing.. but, here in the market sellers selling used gt-n7000 in Rs. 22 to 25000.. but here is one man who is selling this phone with box packed unused and in just Rs. 18000... i checked it.. everything is same gt-n7000 and ofcourse it is original by everything very good camera result , it is not clone or chinese copy.. original samsung galaxy note gt-n7000 as i checked in setting about model # is showing same gt-n7000 but it has micro sim slot while international version have mini (standard) sim slot.. i know korean 4g lte versions have micro sim but what is this then? can anyone help me? is it really international version or is it refurbished or korean with gt-n7000 casing? as it doest have antina as well.. should i buy this one as my budget is less and it is in my range ... i just writing this because i will root it and install custom roms.. so i m asking from all developers here would i do it as korean version have totally different hardware and if i would install original gt-n7000 custom rom in it might it brick or not??
I am waiting suggestion..

Hey every one check out bauner's Android 5.0.2 lollipop CyanogenMod 12 for note N7000 .I use it and it's awesome .
Benchmarks:
Quadrant:5297
AnTuTu:21276

It's found here:http://xdaforums.com/galaxy-note/development/rom-t2938649

Sent from my GT-N7000
I have tried it and score in benchmark apps is very good but...it's not so good for gaming. I have tried a few larger games and they fc or there are some graphic glitches etc. Generally, it's ok rom, but for gamers, not so good. I think, if you like gaming on your device, you should wait a bit more, while more game-friendly version is released, (if that happens) or you should stick with 4.1.2. Don't know about KK, haven't tried that one because I don't like the look of KK roms :) It's nice to have someone willing to port Android L for our devices, great work from bauner and all the other devs. ;)

No more Phones without GLONASS Support for me...

After using the Samsung Galaxy Note extensively and comparing it to the Google Nexus and Galaxy S2 from friends, I found some major differences.

    1. Large Real Estate

It is undoubtedly the Notes best and "worst" feature. Best because everything from showing 5 large Icons next to each other all the way to having Numbers and Letters separate on the same large keyboard with nice spacing for easy password entry is just great for me. When writing on the Screen it is nice to be able to write out words and when using the Note to Record a Video it is great to actually see what you are filming while holding the camera in different Angles. By the way my experience after the Note with the S2 and Nexus was very disappointing. Don’t start using the Note if you are going for a smaller Phone. They will seem so tiny and your eyes will strain with the small font because they now know better.

Worst, because a secure single handed operation can be tricky. That said having the right case for it gives you the grip needed and even with a smaller hand you can hold it so it feels secure and your thumb can reach the opposite side. I would not use the Note without a case. Since I use my Note for everything, I found the side pockets on Cargo pants to offer the best and fastest access while carrying these types of phone securely with you. It has been like this for me ever since the Ipak and the BlueAngel and I don’t mind the size as long as it is useful which the Note definitely is. The free hand were I used to carry my Notebook is now much more useful.

PS: I had a few Tablets in my Hand and they are nothing like the Note. If I have to, I have my trusty and cheap HP TC4400 Tablet PC where the S-Pen also works and my Acer Iconia Dual Tablet where the S-Pen does not work.

    2. GPS (US) / GLONASS (Russian) Global Satellite Positioning System

Here the difference between the Google Nexus, the Galaxy S2, and the Galaxy Note has proven to be substantial. Besides supporting the American GPS system the Note also supports GLONASS the Russian GPS System. Meaning you are getting more Satellites and the lock is achieved in about half the time. In order to compare them I used GPS Essentials. While the Note would get at least around 17 Satellites within seconds the other two would slowly get 4 to 5 Satellites. And I found this to impact allot of functionality on my Phone. Taking a Picture with Geo Data is counterproductive without a fast GPS Lock since data will be way off most of the time. Or when exiting Tunnels while navigating it is important that my devices regains GPS Signal quickly and lets me know if I have to turn. Or just having indoors a Signal to use local searches or find the location on maps. The list is endless and my Note is amazing in these regards and the main reason I advise against the S2 or Nexus. I am sure we will see more new Phones that support both GPS and GLONASS. The S2 and the Nexus do not. Note: I can cross Switzerland with one charge navigating and listing to Audio Books at the same time. (you might want to check the size of Switzerland and have a charger in the car. ;) )

http://blog.clove.co.uk/tag/glonass/ - Further Information on Glonass

    3. The S-Pen

After using the Note for Business purposes extensively I found the S-Pen gives me allot of functionality I was missing on other Phones. Or better say lost when Screens changed, since my WM Phones used to have that. But times change, and that is good so. Well not everything is good but it is a first step in the right direction again. I do hit the button on the side often unwillingly. Calibration will hopefully be better under ICS. And last but not least deactivation of touch input while using the Pen would be great as an Option. That said there are more advantages then disadvantages. Quick Notes, Screenshots, Image Editing, Surfing, Drawing, Writing, etc. it just gives you an important option that is definitely missing on other phones.

These three Points have become for me the main reasons for rooting for the Samsung Galaxy Note. They make it a very useful and functional device beyond what anything else currently on the market can provide. At least for me and the way I use mobile devices it was a great decision. Again the GLONASS Support is really helpful and improves accuracy and speed in allot of applications. Even the earlier tested Heads-Up Display is less useful on other Phones compared to GLONASS Supported Phones. I am sorry I could go on and on about why I am so happy with my Note but the matter of fact is you still have to decide on your own. Good Luck!
