Okay, I recently had to do a reinstall on my AFTV and I also updated your app from 1.03 to the latest.

Now I have 2 questions.

1st question: how do I change the wallpaper? I really liked it how it was before, without wallpaper.

2nt question: Okay, before if I held my home button down, I would get a little menu of icons of the apps that were loaded into memory. Was great, could be in a program, hold the home button down, and then jump to another app quickly, instead of having to find it's icon in the firedtv menu. I can't seem to find that ability on your firedtv since I did the big reinstall. Is that something your app does, or did I get that from some other app or maybe xposed module?

thanks
I believe that the ability to long press home and bring up a list of recents comes out of rbox's xposed module.

After installing the latest Amazon Fire firmware, Fired TV doesn't activate when the home button is pressed, instead it returns to the official Fire home screen, making Fired TV useless. Please make a fix for this to make it compatible with the latest firmware!

You need to enable home button detection in the settings. It is not enabled by default in an attempt to get approval for the FireTV store.

Are you sure Xposed and Rbox Mods are up to date and running?

You might try clearing Data for some things.

Sometimes it helps to clean out the garage if you've fooled with it enough to break it. Do a Factory Reset. If you are using, Rbox's latest ROM, CWMR, and Boot Menu, Root will survive. You might have to reinstall some apps but that is a good thing as an offending app may be gone. Start with getting Xposed, Rbox Mods. and AFTV Launcher running before adding back the rest. Add things slowly, checking for conflicts often.

That's my route when I've hosed things.

Sorry, I looked at the OP for installation instructions, didn't know Xposed/Rbox are needed.... And I am not root (new Fire TV stick, not rootable...) Am I out of luck?

I have a question about Auto Boot

How do I get this to Auto Boot when you start up the Fire TV Stick instead of the Amazon Fire TV Stick home page

Thanks to the Developer @Redth for this. I downloaded this application yesterday and was excited about the idea of getting hiding/ridding the Amz launcher, but after reading every post on this thread and unchecking the "Disable Home Detection", there still seems to be a few issues.

Here is what I noticed:
* The home button still took me to the Amz launcher. Sometimes when pressing the Home button I can visibly see the FiredTV launcher in the background behind the Amz launcher. I was able to make it go to the FiredTV launcher one time after it was idle for a little while.
* FiredTV Launcher settings was only accessible via the remote "Menu" button. I thought this button was supposed to be right-click
* Settings icon takes me to the Amz launcher but with a blank menu (nothing is present)
* It does indeed start on cold-boot
* I even tried installing FireTV Launcher Helper app and set FiredTV to it, and played with all possible options, but this did not do anything whatsoever.

Clearing cache and/or data for both apps did nothing, and uninstalling other launchers or any apps that effect buttons did nothing either. I did not yet try the Macrodroid or Llama routes yet, which one is preferred and more effective?

My Setup:
* Fire TV (not stick, though I also have a stick which I will be trying this out on tonight)
* Rooted w/ unlocked Bootloader, CWM, etc.
* NO Xposed (I don't want to install Xposed for the time being security-wise)
* Pre-rooted Stock ROM 51.1.4.1 (can't wait for non-Amz ROM!)

@Redth:
First, thank you for this app. Working great on my FireTV stick.
Question: How do I use the changes for background colors and wallpaper? For wallpaper, it reads enter url, etc. What do I type in that box to change the wallpaper? I'd like to just use a blue color rather than the black.
For the others, if I enter a number between 1 and 255, nothing happens.
Thanks again.

This was why I left this launcher because even though I'm using the wallpaperenabler.apk they just don't show. I'm now using square launcher and my live wallpapers look awesome.

I have been looking/trying other launchers but they were all either to awkward to use on the fire tv. Or they just didnt work properly. Any chance of a link to the play store for the launcher please as when i look there are several matching square launcher? Thanks for your help

FiredTV Launcher is a 'replacement' for Amazon's Home/Launcher app which does not show sideloaded apps.
Visit the project page for more information (including source code): https://github.com/Redth/FiredTVLauncher

    firedtv-new-01.png

    How does it work?
While it's not possible (yet/without root) to actually replace the launcher app, FiredTV effectively does this by watching for Amazon's launcher being opened, and then immediately launches itself. Because of this, you will see Amazon's home screen flash on the screen very briefly after pressing the home button, before FiredTV Launcher appears.

    Installation
You can install the app by grabbing the .APK directly from the releases page: https://github.com/Redth/FiredTVLauncher/releases
You will need to sideload the app. There are many guides available how to do this on the forums.

Once the app has been installed, go into your FireTV Settings, go into Applications, find 'FiredTV' in the list, select it, and select 'Launch Application'

    Enjoy!

    Where's the Java?
If you looked at the source, you may have noticed that there's no Java. That's because this was written entirely in C# using Xamarin! C# is awesome, go use Xamarin!

    What's next?
Obviously this launcher is very simple, and there's not much to it. I'm planning on adding some Settings configuration within the app, so you can do things like hide apps, reorder them, hide labels, change colors, etc.

    - Fixed bug with hiding Settings shortcut
    - Now works on other devices (also on other devices that support it, now can become the 'home' launcher app)
    - Fixed bug with time display (was in 24 hours by default)

    v.1.0.2

    Updates coming...

So I've put a significant amount of work into FiredTV Launcher in the last few days when I've found some time...

Here's what is in the upcoming release:
    • Completely new screen for better reordering of apps
    • FiredTV Logo removed (it was ugly)
    • Top info bar with time now is semi-transparent
    • Adjustable transparency levels of the top info bar, background behind app icons, background behind app label
    • Customizable wallpaper

Before I release the update I need to add ability to change default wallpaper (right now it's just hard coded). Anyway, here are some screenshots of the upcoming release!

Hey folks, finally had enough time to cobble together a new release.

v1.1.0 is now available (and has also been submitted to the Amazon app store for review)

    Hey Folks!

Sorry I've been really busy these past few weeks and haven't got much done on the Fired TV Launcher...

I'm going to be working some more on it very soon though! Thanks for all the feedback!

This indeed is legit. I figured I'd throw it up on the store and if anyone wants there for ease of downloading they can get it.
I will still publish this to GitHub, free, and open source, including the .apk's themselves so if you want to side-load you can still do it for free!

I'll be taking a look at bugs in the next few weeks, I'm too busy with my day job right now though. I personally haven't seen it crash or lock up or anything so this makes me think maybe there's something odd in your configuration if it's happening to you (it's really just a simple app). If you are experiencing crashes, paste the logcat output in a new github issue or don't complain :)

    Cheers!
