I don't use the system image file. I just mount the system image, then copy the stuff inside over to the partition while preserving permissions.
My folder structure of the partition looks like this:
/data (folder, initially blank)
/system (this is where I copy the stuff in system image to, like app, bin, lib folders)
Then I just adjust grub.cfg accordingly.
I think the screen still stays on. The screen appeared to glow faintly when I was in a completely dark room.
I used PA GApps Pico with proper DPI (the DPI to use is 160).
Libhoudini, I have no idea.
I don't know how to flash either. I just extract the zips, copy them over, then fix permissions.
There's an APK to emulate the flashing procedure I think.
