I just received my replacement M8 and obtained S-Off and am trying to install recovery. I downloaded the latest version and get this error when installing via fastboot:

Z:\Users\Fremen\Downloads\android>fastboot flash reovery twrp-2.8.6.0-m8.img
target reported max download size of 1826418688 bytes
sending 'reovery' (17034 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.716s]
writing 'reovery'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 1.716s

What am I doing wrong?

Since Flashify and the theme are additional components unrelated to TWRP itself, I can't see building a separate version for that. If we can figure out why it works on my custom build and not in the official, great. Otherwise, you're going to have to live without it, I think.

Is your bootloader unlocked?

(it could also be your misspelling)

So, to clarify . . . there's nothing I need to fix, right?

Is it possible to make a nandroid on one device (cracked screen) and restore it on my replacement? Both are S-Off and unlocked with TWRP installed, replacement has a newer TWRP than the cracked screen. I made a backup to my OTG-USB drive and the replacement doesn't find any.

Backups are in a folder by Device ID (serial number). You'd have to copy the backups from the old device folder to the new one for the recovery to see them. I don't necessarily recommend restoring this way, though, as some things are tied to the specific device ID. If anything is broken, you'll just need to clean flash.

If I have time, I'll look into it further, but expect nothing.

@prbassplayer

I looked into this further, and I believe I've been able to add f2fs back into the kernel without losing the ability to decrypt. While I was at it, I also added exfat-nofuse into the kernel for more universal exFAT support. I had previously tried to add it, but it caused permission problems. It seems that since then, the source has matured and I haven't experienced any issues (yet).

I might release a test version in my thread on theMikMik (tomorrow, at the earliest), so if you'd like to help out with testing it, that's where to look.
