You have to install stock odex rom first unrooted than you can update via ota..If you have s-off downgrade hboot to 1.02.0001 and install cwm for this hboot otherwise if you have hboot 1.01.0001 you can use cwm recovery for that hboot and no need for downgrade..Here is also stock odex rom for hboot 1.03.0001 i will upload it...

Then after installing you have just to do ota updates and not root before update to last ota

Hi ATRAC3,

Thanks for this guide

I own a HTC Desire 500 Single-SIM which is SIM-locked for Vodafone Romania.
Code:
*** UNLOCKED ***
Z4U PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.03.0001
Radio-14.16.36Q4.22
OS-
eMMC-boot
Jul 12 2014,02:16:56.11808
I have managed to completely root it (unlock the bootloader, install CWM recovery, install SuperSU 2.46, BusyBox 3.4.33 and Ultimate Kernel 8) by following this post

When I run the command
Code:
strings -n 8 /dev/block/mmcblk0p7
either from my computer using ADB or directly from within the phone itself in the Terminal App, I get the following output:

I am not able to find any 8 digit combination that MAKES SENSE for a CODE.

Can you please help?

Thanks

Are you 100% sure your phone is sim-locked? The last time smb said that he couldn't find the code, his phone wasn't locked at all...
Try putting in another sim card, and see if it works

Thanks for the hint!

Before starting the rooting process, I have tried to put a SIM from a different carrier an the phone asked for the unlock code.

I must admit that i haven't tried again after finishing the rooting process, because i was stuck at the strings output

After your suggestion in your previous post, I tried again to put a different SIM and amazingly it worked like a charm.
I guess that the rooting process "erased" somehow the SIM lock.
Just wondering what exactly it changed (besides unlocking the bootloader using the binary from htcdev.com and overwriting the kernel)

Anyway, many thanks for your valuable input!
Cheers
