It's strange because I've heard that GPE is slower comparing to sense 6/7 based ROMs. Can you install apps on SD card on GPE by default?

Slower, or more smooth? Sense dumps the animations, so of course it's "faster". Gpe gives me a much more smooth experience with zero lags or launcher redraws. Just turn animations off on gpe and it'll fly too

That's odd because GPE has the huge memory leak whereas HTC fixed it in sense.

Sense definitely because of functionality and exclusivity.
I'm not sure why people say one is smoother than the other. If any one of them is not "buttery smooth", then there's something wrong with your phone or apps. Heck, even my Droid X didn't show a hint of lag on GB...
