DONATE TO ME
Default A Better xda-developers forum experience...

Maybe there could be a basic reading test for new users.
if they fail to pass the test...
they cannot post.

seems like that would clean up this site rather nicely.
I have a "Donate" button...for those of you that feel compelled to do so.
However, I don't feel I deserve it. Nor will I guarantee any results in return from any such donations.
Although I do appreciate the gesture, a simple thanks will suffice.

Here's the one required to be a moderator:

In all seriousness, XDA is open to anyone from any country, you don't even have to know English, you can use a translator (such as google or babelfish).

That would be a rather tall order, wouldn't it? Or a very restrictive undertaking. Like in view of the fact that xda is read ALL over the world, in how many languages would the reading test be written?

DONATE TO ME
Also, its not fair to judge someone on how well they talk/communicate/type etc. As Dave correctly stated, XDA is open to all.

Instead of screening all users, maybe existing users should try and be more considerate to those which find it hard to communicate or speak in english
If I have helped you, support Parkinson's

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life.” ~ John Lennon

DONATE TO ME
I never said anything about language skills.

I understand there are communication barriers. even with different dialects of the same language.

What my issue is, when noobies completely CLOG many of the forums
with repetitive and basic questions that would be easily resolved if they would just read.

most of the time the answers are even in the OP that they are posting in.
it's like they don't even try.

while I am certain to have asked noobie questions myself, I think that the lack of effort for a person to at least try and answer there own questions is sure laziness.

and for that I have no patience to offer help to those people.

if a person is having a hard time understanding something...
well that is perfectly acceptable.

there ARE forum rules but how is that enforced???
what is the point of having those rules if they go unenforced?

There must be well over a hundred posts an hour on this forum. No-one has the time to read all of them. If we explicitly enforced the forum rules on everyone who broke them most of the users on here would be banned (even us mods ). We each monitor the device forums we are most fluent (and sometimes not so much) in and close / move and occasionally delete posts / threads that do not belong. There will always be people who don't want to read and just want a quick solution and there are those that don't and actually spend the time helping themselves and others. The best we can do is to encourage them into posting in the correct threads, or searching for their answers first.

When there are posts that are clearly duplicate / redundant or in the wrong forum, they can be reported to the mods with a helpful message (why is it redundant, where does it need moving to, links to threads, etc?) and we will look into them.

Thanks,
Dave

How about just banning curse words? Ban F***, S***, B****, A******, F**, F******, A**, DumbA**, W****, etc. I'm sure users would adapt to say mother clucker instead of mother f*****, but it would be a welcome improvement in my eyes.
