Just received a replacement EVO 4G from Sprint Repair - Here's info on model and FPS
My first EVO 4G was purchased on launch day from the local sprint store, but unfortunately my 1yr old son threw the phone and cracked the screen.
The insurance replaced the phone (for $100) and I just received it today. It appears to be *new* (not refurbished) and I wanted to share what I received to help others who may be in a similar spot.
Surprisingly I was able to completely restore my nandroid from the old phone and it ran perfect on the new phone despite the different hardware version and panel.
Old Phone:
Model #: PC36100
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 1.39.00.05.31
Kernel:
ffolkes v4.2 for froyo
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-a2443432 Matrix@MacBookPro #383
Build (ROM): EVOlution V9 froyo
Hardware: 0002
Panel: Novatek
fps2d: 51 (stdev 6.21)
SetCPU: 245-998, ondemand
New Phone: (restored nandroid from above)
** Did
not come with the latest OTA patch! I was able to root with the 1 click (well 3 clicks) application ***
Model #: PC36100

Hardware: 0003
Panel: Epson
fps2d: 52 (stdev 9.53)

I was very surprised that the fps cap was fixed on the new phone, since the panels are different. But after some reading it appears that v4.2 of the kernel I'm using had both the Epson fix and the Novatek fix.
So now that I've shared -- let me ask:
1) What updates should I do to this phone to get the "latest and greatest" while still maintaining Froyo+Wifi+FPS fix?
a) ROM?
b) Radio?
c) Kernel?
2) I will factory reset the old phone before sending it back, should I worry about restoring a stock ROM/kernel?
