Question [Q] Is the lack of Multi-Touch a big flaw?

Hi guys.

I've had sarah (my Nokia 6020) since God-knows-when (!), and so I'm not familiar with the modern cell phones and their characteristics.

I really like X10, but its lack of multi-touch is a little annoying, and some friends have told me to buy a phone which supports multi-touch.

I wanna know what exactly I will miss if I buy X10 and ignore its lack of multi-touch? Is it only important in games? How frequently games use multi-touch and is it impossible to play multi-touch games in X10?

Thanks.

Hi - Basically - it's only certain games which really need to use multitouch.. ones where you have to do 2 things at once.. there are some options to overcome this in certain cases, such as using a Wii Remote paired with your phone.. Personally I am not bothered at all about the lack of multitouch, because there are lots of games you can get which don't need MT... There are many good reasons to get one which, for me at least far outway the lack of MT.

At first I was hesitant to buy the X10 cuz it didn't support MT as well. It's a big step for me cuz I've never used a smart phone before but I do know lots about it lol. To be honest, I really don't think multi touch is an important feature, unless you're really into games that needs it. I've had the X10 for almost a month now and I absolutely love it there are great games in the App store that doesn't need multi touch like Radiant, Abduction, Totemo, etc etc. You should definitely get Rachael, you won't be disappointed

Not really, but there is talk about that in 2.1, but we don't talk about that here... MT is a taboo topic

lack of mt is quite bad for gaming. example game like pspxdroid for playing pspx game and other action game. the point is a problem is a problem if u think is a problem. if you really want a phone with mt , end of the day it just going to come and hunt you if u get a x10 if u dun mind wait for 2.1 and see is there mt which some said there is, if not you can get desire or galaxy s which both are great phone.

Do you use your phone to call people...?

I do, and I don't need multi-touch for that.

If you're coming from an old dumb-phone, either you don't need multi-touch, or you're expecting your new phone to change your life in ways you never thought possible.

Trust me, the x10 will not change your life in ways you never thought possible, and no, you don't need multi-touch...

Thank you everyone, your opinion is really helpful.

Considering the fact that I'm a gamer, I think MT will be needed for me someday, but I understand I shouldn't overvalue it.

Why is it making a decision about a cell phone to buy is so hard? It's a lot easier with PCs, laptops, wives, Digicams, MP3 Players, ...

I studied a lot about X10 and MT and I'm almost certain that there will be no MT for X10 (SE made it clear 5-6 days after the rumor about MT in 2.1 started).

Ah, and every phone has its pros and cons and it makes no sense to consider them as "taboo".

there have also been reports of the touch panel manufacturers saying that they can enable MT on their ST pad with trickery too.

so i wouldnt believe anything anyone says for now. and just wait.

but if you are a 'gamer' then buy a psp or something.. its a mobile phone not a console/gaming pc

The point is that multitouch for as i know is used in web browsers and in games.Someone correct me if i am wrong. So if you would like to play the you should buy a PSP or Nintendo or whatever portable console, for more than one reason. My PSP's battery for example lasts up to 5 hours of intense gaming, and you still have the phone for calling, internet and so on.The control is better on the handheld console with or without multitouch.
But... since almost all smartphones have multitouch it whould be nice to have this feature even if i would not use it often.
So the bottom line is that i have a PSP for gaming so i really do not need the multitouch feature.
