Question [Q] No 3G on SGS - Power Amp Defect ?

My Samsung Galaxy S can not connect to 3G

GPRS or WIFI is ok. Of course, APN is ok. Just when I switch Network Mode from GSM only to AUTO GSM/WCDMA or WCDMA only, my SGS looses connection completely, only WIFI active. Can not even use the phone to call or be called.

After several new Odin Rom flashes, send it back to Provider to get it repaired. Got it back with statement they replaced "IC Power Amp". Yes: It worked for 3 days...and now again no UMTS / 3G, phone only works when I put Network mode on 2G only...

Shipping it back takes another 3 weeks... I've been asking now for new phone... no luck yet... And wondering: does anybody here have an idea?

Yeah, thanks for the reply though. I was afraid I have a special case on hand. Will keep posted if there is any progress.

I found the offending chip on Phonewreck, ( phonewreck.com; samsung-galaxy-s-teardown )

I can not believe the same chip fails twice. This must have some other cause..but what ????

Anybody heard of this chip (or problem) before? Am I really the only one out there?

Was fiddling around more. I got when I tried to apply update.zip, after pressing volup&home&power , a red error message:

multicsc : can not access to /system/csc/XEN/system/

Can this have anything to do with the problem ??

Default Still no...?

Oh, is it that nobody has an answer... or nobody reading this? I am still looking for a solution...

Will try to Reset phone to factory with the 3-key combo and ten reinstall the official Frodo. Maybe... you never know. It remains weird. Somehow I refuse to believe it really is a hardware issue... twice the same while about nobody else seems to have this???? Hmmm...

Nope, Frodo runs fine... except for the 3G issue. Still when I put it on anything else than GSM only, it will loose all connections...
