Well, here's the story in Taiwan.

Screen aligment is a big problem here in Taiwan, since HTC with CHT (Chung Hwa Telecom) launched the Dopod CHT 9000 at the begining of July. After almost one month, HTC and CHT eventually admited that there is an issue on the touch screen aligment, and everyone can change to a new one in a month of your purchasing, if you got this problem.

HTC and CHT started to release a new version we called "little green spot" version at the end of July. Look at the picture and you'll know what I mean.

This problem is probably nothing to do with "USP to PC", micro SD card, softeware, keyboard, WM5, etc. It is just as simple as a hardware problem of the right side "rubber gasket" between the frame and touch screen, which is a little bit thicker and create extra pressure on the screen then make it crazy. And of course the temperature of the battery during charging would make it worse (you know the physics). HTC never gives their own story. This is what I heard from some tech guys.

And we also found devices with S/N after HT630XXXXX.... would be better. Since we believe they are the "real new ones", and S/N before that, just "rework" ones.

Hope you guys overthere understand my English, and good luck to you for hunting the "little green spot" of your own, if you would like to stick on this...what can I say....troublesome device?

This is the major thread on this, if you can read traditional Chinese:

A video about the screen alignment problem.

And be sure to check if your 3G voice call disconnects when you are moving.

And, yeah, I am surprised that HTC still shipped the prodcut abroad by knowing there is an issue on the screen aligment, after lots of "guinea pigs" in Taiwan doing QC for them. Shame on them.

Totally lame...I am going to call HTC UK today (if they are open) and see what they can do. I know for a fact they have had a few reports about this, that much they have told me. So its definitely a known issue. Not only that but the guy I spoke to told me they have had it happen on the past Wizard (though my Vario was just fine and still is) and Magician devices too! Why on earth would they screw this up yet again!

My retailer will only exchange my device if he can see the problem in action, the issue is that it's intermittent so I cant be sure that it will present itself when I take it in to show him! I think it's going to be easier and more effective for me to deal with HTC direct.

As for the keyboard only clicking up on the right hand side, I do not believe this is an issue. The same right side only click is present on my Vario. I am sure this is a design/cost cutting thing, only having the clip on one side would have been a choice.

EDIT:

Now that is interesting. I have a device which is HT628XXXXXXX.

So I clearly have a device which is "pre-fix" according to your estimate. Looks like as an early adopter in the UK I've got shafted!

The firs bunch of "guinea pigs" in Taiwan got S/N HT624 & HT625, which might have serious aligment problem. Then HTC started to release the "little green spot" version, which has S/N HT630, for changing. As far as I know there is still no complaint from HT630 on this issue.

From the timeline, devices with S/N between HT625 and HT630 go abroad with the original problem before they can "pre-fix" them? maybe, who knows except HTC.

So...good luck..... 8)

I am not going to start a new thread for this. So I just post it here for you guys enjoy music from A2DP like me. Here is the way to improve sound quality:

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings

Add new dword, Value name=BitPool; Value data=48 (Decimal)
Modify, Value name=UseJointStereo; Value data=0 (Decimal, Originally 1)

For BitPool:
Microsoft suggests the following bitpool values for optimal buffer sizes.
30 - Low audio quality
40 - Medium audio quality
48 - High audio quality
58 - Excellent audio quality
Chose one you like. I think 48 is good enough.

For UseJointStereo: use 0 instead of 1, then you got the real stereo.......

BTW, if you lost your modification after soft reset, you might try to "totally" close the reg editor you use before soft reset.

And chosing an "appropriate" A2DP headset is quite important. Some just don't work well with this device.

And, yeah, you can forget all the reg modification you have ever heard. Just these two values will do the job very well....

Good luck,
Sean
