Question [Q] Unroot 2.2 EVO 4G + Backups

HI guys,
I know this is probably the most repeated/abused topic but please bear with me.
I need to return a Sprint EVO 4G to the store and need to Unroot.

Now I don't mind losing the apps (anyways need to do cleanup) but I wish to save a few things:
  • my SMS's (text messages). I use handcent..... can i use it to back it up online? or some other app. Don't mind using the stock app for backup too.
  • All my voicemails that have been downloaded to the phone... can I save them in anyway? (I can forward them to my email but I need them on the phone later on)
  • My call logs need to be saved. app or backup process??

I have been going through some guides on the forums and know the basic process of unrooting:

need to run the app for S-ON
and then the RUU for HBOOT 2.10

but most of the links for those files are not active or the download for the RUU is not active anymore and also I need some specifics too (therefore this new posting)

Been through these articles (so atleast familiar with the basics of what to do)

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-...g-dummies.html
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-...oot-guide.html
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-...y-service.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141

Rooted using UNREVOKED3.... no kernel.... no rom changes (mainly used for wireless tethering)
I also have titanium backup pro and have unfrozen all apps.

S-OFF
HBOOT 2.10.0001
Radio 2.15.00.11.19
Android 2.2
Software number 3.70.651.1

1. Where can I find an active set of all the files required for the unroot?
2. A link to go with the files above for the instructions.
3. How do I backup the 3 things I listed above? (if possible)
4. Since I am going to be unrooted, I can't use nandroids and Titanium pro (correct me if I am wrong). Is there any other way to save my settings or selective app backup?

Thanks to everyone helping out.

To unroot, you should read or go back to this thread:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141

Also, I have posted the links for the downloads, especially for the PC36IMG file last. It is the same file that was supposed to download from the unrooting in 2 steps thread.

Thanks for the download links. I have the 2 files now.
As far as I can remember I have not used Unrevoked Forever separately besides Unrevked3. Therefore according to the guide I start at these steps

Quote:
◄●If you have NEVER used Unrevoked forever, start here●►

Power off the phone and reboot into the recovery by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen. Then select RECOVERY.

Connect via USB. There is an option for this in both Amon RA and Clockwork.

Transfer the PC36IMG.zip to the root of your sdcard.

EJECT THE PHONE FROM THE COMPUTER and then turn off USB in Recovery

Power off the phone and reboot into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen.

It should check the PC36IMG.zip and then ask you YES/NO to apply the update. Press VOL UP for YES

Once complete, Press VOL UP to reboot.

You are now unrooted!
(I don't need to used the unrevoked-forever-son file now???)
(Do I need to rename the downloaded file to PC36IMG.zip from whatever it's name is right now?)

Also can something be done about the backups I asked for??

thanks

If you were to flash the unrevoked-forever-son file, you would do it before running the PC36IMG file in order to S-ON the phone. Some people do not worry about it, and just leave the phone S-OFF.

Yes, you need to change the PC36IMG file name top PC36IMG.zip, not PC36IMG.zip.zip which is easy to do.

I'm not the greatest at backing up texts and call logs, as I usually do not find them necessary to back up, but the only app I have used in the past has been MyBackup Pro (MyBackup or MyBackup Root will probably work as well). That was a while back, and there are probably some better apps out there now that do the same thing and then some. Not sure.
