Hey Dorimanx great work with kernel 4.5...With hyper governor it s ultra fast and stable.Thank you for your continuos great work.
I want help other users with your kernel.I ve noticed that:
If you have problems to wake up phone (black screen and you have to pull out battery),or black screen after a call,or the screen doesn t light up when you take off the phone from ear,it s a governor problem...
I had all this problem with your last rom and cpu min 96mhz max 1612,goveror ondemand, kernel 4.5
I changed the governor to hyper and now it s great

Just had my first freeze with Rom Manager, but I think I know the reason why this happened:

As I reported before, there were no freezes with any app I tested (Rom Manager for example didn't freeze), but than I moved Dalvik Cache to SD-Ext with App2SD Gui in order to get more internal space (with Dalvik moved to SD-Ext I have 129 MB free space, without moving Dalvik I only have about 59 MB) and I got freezes instantly after opening Rom Manager and Blackmart.

After these freezes I first tried setting the cpu governor to hyper with system tuner app, but there were still freezes. Now that I wiped Dalvik Cache in CWM, I don't get any freezes anymore, so I think the freezes where related to moving Dalvik to SD-Ext.

I have Dalvik on Sd-ext and each boot is a surprise: will be freezes or will not be freezes???

Sometimes there are freezes, sometimes not...
But even if there are no freezes right after boot, it can come a few time later... but here also, not 100% reproductible...

So maybe the whole thing is due to Dalvik being on SD-EXT???

Dorimanx, does that help solving the ghost freezes issues???

And, Fire1981, will you keep Dalvik on SD-EXT? If yes, please report if you see the same kind of issues boot after boot...

Thanks!

Hi,
Dropped calls and poor reception, carrier issues....cloud things when troubleshooting these type of issues.

Agree totally, troubleshooting isn't always easy. The calls I received / placed were in an area with excellent reception, close to my home, though ... so I am lead to believe they were kernel related, but couldn't tell for sure.

Today, on 3.2, all kinds of varying in/out calls, texts etc....not a single glitch. I really believe that from reading this thread, 3.2 is the most stable for the majority. It is missing some of the latest upgrades but is rock solid. Again, some of you have no issues...I know.

I confirm, whenever I want to be on the safe side, I revert back to 3.2, it is the one that feels absolutely best (on my ROM at least), even if some also say this for 3.3 or 3.4.

Lets see what the master has for us in 4.5. :)

Holy crap. I barely finished writing this post and....Shazzzzzam...(said with a Jim Nabors' Accent) 4.5 is released. Thx Dorimanx.

Absolutely, too fast our "Dorimaster" is :D

I'm on 4.5, but haven't placed nor received a call today, been really busy :(

Will stick to 4.5 and see how it works out.

JP.

Thanks!

No, I wiped Dalvik within CWM, so Dalvik now isn't on SD-EXT.

I didn't have issues after booting or with booting process with Dalvik on SD-EXT, but the phone froze instantly when opening certain apps for example Rom Manager or Blackmart (sometimes also when opening App2SD GUI).

Due to the fact, that I use Rom Manager very often, I had to wipe Dalvik to get the default setting back. If there wasn't the problem with Rom Manager, than Dalvik would possibly be still on SD-EXT.

@ Looki

What rom do you use? Did you use the default initrd.gz or did you use the rom's initrd.gz?

I use NDT stable V6.0 and used the initrd.gz from it, because with the default initrd.gz from kernel 4.4 my SD Card wasn't recognized, so I wanted to be on the save side with kernel 4.5.

Did you change the CPU governor? I changed it to hyper governer using system tuner app and set minimal clock speed to 96 Mhz, maybe this could also be a reason for freezes. Maybe Dorimanx can post his settings for governor or CPU Settings.

Been on 4.5 for a few hours. Seems to be working fine. I did have one freeze when I first loaded it but changed from 96mhz to 245mhz for low end and have no more issues. Thanks for fixing the SD and sd-ext issue.

I may try this on tatung's CM-9 ICS build next.

zram is as was in 4.4
no change. and all work fir me ok.
Sent from my HD2 development phone.

Yah...not sure what the change is...but in 4.4, when my autokill kicks in just before I run out of ram....using Zram as well, there is no freeze...maybe a delay but no freeze. With 4.5 it freezes most times. With 3.2, rock solid...no freeze.

I should test with Zram disabled! I predict the freeze will stop. I will report back.

I use TyphooN 3.7.0, with Dorimanx initrd.gz.
I also use hyper 96 MHz -1.6 GHz

I confirm with my tests with a lot off convinated configurations of roms and kernels (including ics) . All our ghost freezes are caused by too much apps installed and the Dalvik cache on Sd-Ext. Now is time to think in a solution... (sorry for my poor english.)

I don't think that hyper governor is the cause. I have used it with fikret kernel on 2 different roms (tytung nexus1gb and tweakos pure cm7) without issue.

I just had a Facebook freeze in v4.5. I did not change anything. It happened after rebooting.

I'm using Typhoon v3.7.6 using my ROM's initrd.gz. I'll see if I can find some clues about why this happened.

I love so much this kernel but it keeps freezing when I open Facebook :(

There seems to be a TREND with Facebook and Google Translations....and maybe browser based freezes, in that all can be fine until a reboot. Something randomly gets buggered after a boot. Dorimanx, I always wondered if some of us have redundant and/or leftover scripts in our Initd directory that cause problems depending on how the OS runs those scripts at boot. Maybe the timing is inconsistent. I know I have some redundent code in there which I am going to look at myself and try to clean up.

Bottom line, never a single freeze as described, with 3.2. No ghost issues.

Same here, I'm still waiting for a complete solution to this. I'm using v3.2 as well.

As I recall, these freeze issues start appearing at 3.3. Maybe a change that was made then is still affecting us right now.

It's such a pesky issue.
Some say 3.3 or 3.6...somewhere around there, the issues stopped, then came back on a later version. But I was able to reproduce it from 3.3 on. I tend to think that some of us have the issue and don't even know it either because it is random...and possibly pending reboots....or others because they don't use the apps in question...or even because Kernel releases were so quick, that certain versions never got used enough to trigger the issue.

In the short time I used 4.4, I had no freeze issues related to Facebook/Google Translate but I never used it long enough to know for certain. I mean, whether you use Facebook, Google Translate...or NOT, they are good for testing out the issue, that other browser related apps may have trouble with.

    example:
    echo "499200 1000 1075" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels_havs
    echo "537600 1000 1100" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels_havs
    echo "576000 1000 1100" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels_havs

frequency min voltage max voltage > sent to sysfs interface.
new 15voltage will check if your kernel support vdd_levels_havs if yes activate dynamic settings if no activate static!
    clip_image001.gif

Fix was been made by Marc the great kernel DEV from .35 kernel.

*Added fix for auto button on in dark and off in light, now we can switch to old ways, 10 sec on then off till touched, or screen off/on this is the default in ROM if you need to have auto light on /off depend on light, edit the 13_modules script in init.d and look for #KEYBOARDAUTOLIGHTON

Remove the # save (remove the .bkp) and reboot or run this for imitate effect.
    echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/btn_backlight_manager/button_auto
but it will be cleared on next boot, so 13_modules script change is needed.

Fix was been made by Great Kernel Dev Munjeni by my request for you all

*Added max CPU freq to 1.6 with 1375 voltage
*Fixed the CPU settings, so 998000 is really 1Ghz and 1.61 is MAX overclock! It’s slightly faster than Tytung 1.19Ghz because of more voltage!
So to get non overclocked device use 998000 this is also the default!
*Added minor stable tweaks for best kernel support and faster ROM!
see /system/etc/init.d/13_modules (my ROM users have them all in 2.9.9 ROM)

    *Added new kernel modules:

    • Enable cleancache pseudo-RAM driver to cache clean pages
    • Run-time PM core functionality
    • ZRAM XVMALLOCATOR
    • Compressed in-memory swap device (zram) + activation scripts for CM7
    • Page cache compression support
All Run auto! Except the ZRAM swap!
All you need to know is HERE
To activate the ZRAM in CM7
At Kernel Install, choose from menu to install ZRAM SWAP

Go to settings > CyanogenMod > Performance > Compcache RAM usage
Use 26% for 110MB virtual ram swap (best choose)
Or lower, or you can disable it any time.
Reboot needed to apply the change.

    After reboot!
You can check the swap load / stats
    Here is how to:
Open terminal or connect by ADB SHELL

    Code:
    su -
    free
#This will show you that you have swap! and 0 used!

      zram_stats

#this will show you the usage + statistics in KB
    Also the compression rate
      Short info:
Compression is with LZO algorithm. already in kernel
ZRAM is RAM based SWAP, so it's take 357MB RAM and make them 700! or close to 720MB by compressing the data pages!
CPU will work slightly more, when compressing RAM, but when done, it's will be free as was.
This mod was lost for too long! time to activate it again!
Also the old mod was called ramzswap! This project is closed, now it's new 2011 project in mainline! Now it's ZRAM!

Thanks for all the donations! [IMG]file:///C:/Users/lastman/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image001.gif[/IMG]this is really help [IMG]file:///C:/Users/lastman/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image002.gif[/IMG]09/11/11 Time:00:05

*Added menu to kernel! now there is only one kernel for all!
Navigate in menu with volume down.
Menu goes only forward. No back choose. (Just start over)

    You can choose:
    No-2way-REC / 2way-REC ability.
CM7 + others OR sense ROM or MIUI
    MAG / CLK
With new busybox 1.19.4 STABLE! / Or without! (Stay with yours form ROM)

*Compressed kernel with LZMA compression! very small image.
*I have added the smartass V2 it's working ok most of the time!
*I have added and fixed the smartass governor!
*Added kernel optimization with new tool-chain 2010 for best compatibility.
    *Added RiserFS partition support.
*Added all commits from TYTUNG R13! (new audio driver as module, loaded with script that i have included.)

      The END :)

    !!! Front page alert !!!

Guys.. I have ported the bravo CM9 rom to our device and used the test kernel that securecrt sended me yesterday and I am happy to inform you all ::

WE HAVE HARDWARE ACCELERATION GOING ON OUR HD2

    FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    chrome in action !

    2evrptv.png

so now I will start fine tuning this rom.. it's a rough port with no working sound yet and probably more... but we have it !!!

THANKS YOU VERY MUCH : securecrt, Rick_1995, Dorimanx

Ok i have read all the comments 3 pages :)

I am happy that freezing the locations apk in system/app help to kill the GPS wakeup!

i will try to use the one from ICS google app package! when i get new device.

or any one that what to make the experiment can do that.

I will tune HD2 kernel some more, i see that new common commits are added to all kind of kernel that i watching.

i will try to pull them to HD2.

about HW for ICS. i checked the ZTE device kernel and i see the video driver changes..

i will try to port them to HD2.

i need to work on it non stop with device in hand.
so it's will be possible soon as i get it!

i will install TYTUNG ROM, and do the testing!

i think that we need to JUMP to CM9 as it's great (after using it on my SG2 for 2 weeks! i like it)

and with HW! it's can be done!, and i will do it!

i will build CM9 rom for HD2! but only if i can port the drivers!

if not, it's pointless, why someone want slow graphic device when it can do better with CM7?

    so stay tune :)
