Because you have the volume down button pressed at all times practically, when when you restart you enter recovery by default. Just go to fastboot reboot system and you're fine

I have a problem and I'm new here, so I just reply in this topic. I'm sorry for my little English.

I have a HTC One S and I dropped it a few days ago, now the volume down button is dented and I can not use it anymore. Since you can still set te volume by pushing the volume up button and swipe the volume down, i thought it was ok.
Now I wanted to turn my phone off and this is what I've got:

*** LOCKED ***
VLE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.15.0000
Radio-1.11.50.05.28
OpenDSP-v31.1.0.45.0815
eMMC-boot
Dec 14 2012, 17:10:57:-1

HBOOT

<VOL UP> to previous item
<VOL DOWN. to next item
<POWER> to select item

FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
SHOW BARCODE

Using the volume up button I can select one of the items, but pressing the powerbutton brings me nothing. I have no idea what to do or how I can fix this.

Please help!
I see this is the wrong topic but I am unable to delete this message, I'm sorry.

I forgot to quote

Okay, then, I have a newbie question: can someone explain exactly what "S-Off" means?

In their devices, HTC have installed a sort of security check whose level is determined by S-OFF/S-ON. Essentially, this security level is a flag stored on the device’s radio that checks signature images for any firmware before it is allowed to be written to system memory. This hinders using any custom ROMs, splash images, recovery etc., and also restricts access to the NAND flash memory. However, when security level is set to S-OFF, the signature check is bypassed, allowing a user to upload custom firmware images, unsigned boot, recovery, splash and HBOOT images, as well as official firmware that has been modified, this enabling maximum customization of your HTC Android device.

Furthermore, S-OFF also reduces restrictions on accessing the NAND flash memory on the device, allowing all partitions (including /system) to be mounted in write mode while the operating system is booted.

In other words, this setting allows developers to create and develop custom ROMs for this device, correct? My wife is a nurse practitioner and as loyal as I've been to Windows Mobile and Windows Phone platforms, there is simply no development being made in regards to medical applications on it and I've made the decision to buy her an Android device and leaning on the HTC One but not before I do my homework on it given I own in addition to my Titans (Eternity), also an HD2 that I currently have the NexusHD2 (CM10) Rom; thank you up front and I can't agree more with what the very first message in this thread spoke of. Take care!

We want you to become the kind of user we see as productiveto a developer’s community, and why not?, to be a developer yourself!

Note to General users:
This is a chance for more advanced users to “give back” at XDA-Developers the knowledge we have gathered together in a decade of development. This is a thread to behave in a tolerant way, taking into consideration that the user posting queries might have never even heard words such as “adb” or “ROM", so, if you are not willing to be helpful, I kindly invite you to browse into another thread.

Probably yes, either by removing the apps that link to the service or by removing the entries from a decompiled gallery.apk in its respective xml (or the methods from smali worst case scenario)

Simple answer yes, everything is possible, now even simpler, do not expect anyone to do it for you, try doing it yourself. Try looking at the HTC One predecesor's hacks (like the HTC One X+), It has already been done before ;), then you can easily apply previously gathered knowledge into current devices, that is how I would do it.

Hi Kartikp84,

If you don't know this tool; ROM Cleaner have a look at it, you can not imagine how stripped a ROM can be! Also if your phone is rooted and already running a custom ROM, there are good chances this can be an available option into Aroma installer if the ROM support this function.

The best for now is to give some time for the phone to be available.

Flash a stock firmware and stock boot.img specifically made for your device. You can brick your device by flashing random stuff, be very careful with that.

Just flash the latest available for your device model right now, kernel/baseband/roms control cpu, display, battery etc, so I wouldnt wait much in a non optimized version since you are risking the integrity of your hardware.

Hello everyone.
I'm new to xda. I'm french and there are very few things in my language on this phone, so I just get information here (sorry for my english .. ^^)
I do a lot of research to answer my questions, but I'm a little confused, if you could help me put all clear
I have a Htc One version 1.28.163.3, I want to update to the latest version (1.28.401.7 I think), what should I pay attention? The CID (what it is, how I find)?
An official stock rom installs as a Custom ROM? It is there a site to find the official ROM without using xda?

Thank you to whoever wants to help me :D

External Libraries

This may be a bit technical for this thread, but I have a Python Library that I would like to use with my Java Android project. Is it possible for me to make API calls to the Python library from my Android app?

Hi deathscthe,

Are you still on the stock ROM? If yes simply open the SuperSu or Superuser application and locate the option for removing permanently the root. Follow the onscreen procedure and reboot. Unrooted.

To determine the exact RUU for your phone in fastboot mode at the prompt type >fastboot getvar version-main

e.g. of mine
C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools>fastboot getvar version-main
version-main: 1.29.661.5
finished. total time: 0.001s

This would be the number of my RUU, now look for your version-main, it could different from mine. If you need more help don't hesitate to ask.

Take S-Off for Security Off. With S-Off you can directly write to kernel, bootladers and radio, while S-On devices would need a second device (a PC) to write to those areas. Its like a protection mechanism for us not to brick our phones (at least not as easy).
There is plenty of explanations at our forums if you want t get into technical details or just want another explanation. Just try using the search button in the right top corner of XDA pages, you will be amazed how much you can find ;).

Guys, please keep your questions device specific.
We can't be discussing Galaxy Tabs here.
    Thanks

I am going to go with a NO in that subject.

Although there are plenty of methods that have been successful in several handsets in the past by using third party hardware, it can get complicated even for a advanced users to do so, since it might involve technichal aspects only manufacturers know about.

Normally, these methods are developed and posted here, depeding on the handset, it might be easy or not. Not so many years ago, these methods were as easy as flashing a "untouched" firmware, but lately, manufacturers have been implementing methods to detect if we have touched the bootloader and have increasingly making it harder for developers to break them, thus returning to a "factory untouched" state is getting harder with every new device.

In short, If you want your warranty intact beyond the existence of any doubt, do not root.
