Telcel Configuration

Hola paisanos!

For those who are still having problems connecting to the new Telcel 3G broadband service on your Windows Mobile devices, you can check the configuration here (spanish)

NOTE: I'll post the info here since the linked site has been having some technical difficulties.

1. Crea una conexión a internet llamada "Telcel GPRS" con los siguientes datos (esto en la primer opcion donde dice "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using"):

- Selecciona el módem llamado "Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
- Access point name: internet.itelcel.com
- Username: webgprs
- Password: webgprs2002
- En Proxy Settings asegurate de palomear "This network connects to the Internet"

Saludos,
Rayan

Correct, he will not be able to use 3G on the iPhone, but he will be able to use Telcel's EDGE service without any problems.

You just need to provide the following settings to the iPhone:

- Access point name: internet.itelcel.com
- Username: webgprs
- Password: webgprs2002

Let me know if you need further assistance.

but note*

you could prefer to have an unlimited data plan. because the iphone connects automatically to the internet via EDGE/WiFi.. theres no way to turn off that.. so i reccommend 2 things.:

2. delete the last letter of the internet.itelcel.com (internet.itelcel.co) so it wont connect and your credit will remain in ;).

3g not working

Hello I have a O2 xda exec with prepaid plan with telcel, I tested my chip with a friends phone in Mexico city and worked fine in 3G but for some reason my phone does not detect the 3G signal only GPRS, anybody knows if there is some kind of configuration that I have to change or some program that I have to run to make 3G available?
Gracias

@Isaygarcia

You are right on the iPhone, but wrong on the unlimited data plan price when tied to a voice plan. It's actually cheaper when you tie it to a voice plan, It comes down to $553.82 pesos (plus your voice plan).

In my case I was paying at least $100 pesos per month for a prepaid Amigo SIM, plus the $680 for the unlimited data plan, so that sums up $780 pesos per month.

But now I added a voice plan to my current data plan and it all comes down to $742.82 so I'm saving and at the same time I got a better deal with minutes, long distance, frequent dialed numbers (free calls), etc...

@javo_1

Well, you don't have to do anything to the phone in order to see the 3G symbol on the top bar, it's automatic. Perhaps you live on an area that hasn't been upgraded yet?

Buena suerte!

What device are you using?

Take a look at the Comm Manager, chances are you have a selection named 3G, if so, enable it. However not all ROMS have that option in there.

Let me know.

I have a O2 Xda Exec with WM5, in settings>phone>band I have the following options:
network type (Auto,GSM,WCDMA) is set to Auto

Select your GSM/UMTS band

GSM Band: (EGSM+DCS1800, PCS1900) is set to EGSM+DCD1800
UMTS Band: (UMTS 2100) is set to UMTS 2100, is the only option.

My connection is set to Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)

Ah, there's why... :)

The XDA Exec (also known as the HTC Universal) is not compatible with Telcel's 850 band.

Sorry!

y la velocidad?! what abot the speed?

And, what about the speed in Mexico? Telcel claims speeds up to 1.5 MBs and BTW the UMTS band is 1900, please test your speeds and share your experience, go to http://www.mobilespeedtest.com/.

Bye-bye

    Rayan said:

    VOZ= GSM 900/1800/1900
    Datos 3G= WCDMA 850/2100

    Summary

    Hi

Telus GSM devices, Bell GSM devices (unlocked), also will work in ANY american 3G GSM Network with "traditional american bands". Should be noted that, Telus and Bell also have CDMA devices, for it to consider this.

    IN SUMMARY:

The devices FULLY compatible with "american traditional bands" carrier-based, that uses 3G-850 (Band 5) and/or 3G-1900 (Band 2), are At&t devices, Telus (GSM) devices, Bell (GSM) devices, Rogers devices
...and in addition, Telstra devices (these last one with the 3G-850 band, not 3G-1900), but also tis ones suitables for Telcel Mexico (Telcel Mexico uses ONLY 3G-850, nationwide).

Now, HSPA+ iusacell`s GSM mexican network, uses 3G-850 and 3G-1900 (region dependant), and Movistar Mexico (HSPA) in same way (3G-850 or 3G-1900)

Anyway, the unlocked devices of mentioned carriers (at&t, Telus GSM, Bell GSM, Rogers..) will work perfectly in 3G in any mexican GSM network; also wil work perfectly in 3G in most Latin American GSM Carriers.

    Best regards
