I need to break a password to a deceased friends phone. It is protected by a pattern lock, and a backup Pin. It's a Samsung Galaxy S4 locked to the Fido network in Canada. There is valuable information on the phone that I need to obtain without erasing, including photos, texts, and other media stored to the device's memory.

3 months ago it was taken to a forensic specialist to crack it. But there was an issue apparently unique with the Fido network that prevented the breaking through.

As I said before, the information on this device is invaluable, and neither police, the carrier (Fido), or Samsung can offer assistance in getting through what seems to be a trivial pattern lock/a PIN.

Please somebody help!

Thanks in advance

If the phone has USB debugging enabled, try this:

I highly doubt that it is enabled. Knowing my friend, he was not tech savvy, and owned the phone for 2 weeks before he passed. It is neither rooted nor debugging enabled.

Is it encrypted? If not....

Flash a custom recovery through odin..and then possibly, use adb to take a backup.
I've done this before on a Galaxy Y phone..didn't have adb though. I took a nandroid backup to the external sdcard and got it through that.

it's a bit of a hack though.

good luck.

After bootup, I'm pretty sure it goes to lock screen. Which is where you are prompted for the password/PIN
